It’s been 20 years sinceStar Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sithhit theaters, but all these years later, one key character’s fate is still unknown. TheStar Warsprequels introduced audiences to some of the best characters in the entire franchise, and many of them have returned in some way in otherStar Warsprojects.
Not only werecharacters fromRevenge of the Sithseen in shows likeStar Wars: The Clone Wars, but they were also given greater depth and storylines that better inform their characters. While the prequel trilogy in particular focused mainly on Obi-Wan Kenobi, Padmé Amidala, andAnakin Skywalker’s path to the dark side, other characters were vital to the storytelling.
Despite his importance inRevenge of the SithandThe Clone Wars, we still don’t know what happened to Commander Cody.
Commander Cody’s Fate Hasn’t Been Revealed Yet In Star Wars
Though We’ve Come Close
Despite not officially knowing Commander Cody’s fate,he’s appeared in one episode ofStar Wars: The Bad Batch, where he was seen working for the Empire. However, by the end of the episode, it was revealed to Crosshair that Cody had gone AWOL after being part of a mission that he didn’t agree with.
Throughout the years, there’s also been some talk of Cody appearing in oneStar Warsproject or another.Cody was originally planned as an antagonist forStar Wars Rebelsseason 3, where he’d be tasked with hunting down clones helping the Rebellion. However, the plot line was abandoned.
Additionally, there wererumors that Cody would appear inObi-Wan Kenobiseason 1, living with the titular Jedi on Tatooine. It’s unclear why this was dropped, but it likely had something to do with Cody needing to be played by Temuera Morrison, who was still portraying Boba Fett inThe Book of Boba Fett.
Temuera Morrison has portrayed all clones in live-action since they debuted inStar Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones.
With Morrison potentially starring in twoStar Warsshows both filming and releasing so close to one another, Lucasfilm likely figured that it might be confusing to casual viewers.
There Are Still Opportunities For Commander Cody To Return Again
And I’m Hoping It’s Sooner Rather Than Later
Commander Cody is one of the most beloved clones, andit feels disingenuous to the fans who love him and to the character himself that we don’t know anything about his futureafter the rise of the Empire. With so fewStar Warsprojects currently in development, there aren’t a lot of options for where Cody could appear.
It’s been rumored since The Bad Batch series finale aired that Lucasfilm Animation would be developing a Captain Rex-centered clone rebellion show.
It’s been rumored sinceThe Bad Batchseries finale aired that Lucasfilm Animation would be developing a Captain Rex-centered clone rebellion show. While nothing’s been announced about the status of that show, it would be the perfect place to see Cody return. Additionally, ifObi-Wan Kenobiwere ever to get a season 2, Cody could appear alongside his Jedi General.
BecauseStar Warsis such a huge franchise, not every character can get a clear-cut ending, but when it comes to Commander Cody, it feels overdue. Considering we’ve seen older clones in shows likeRebels, it’s about time we know what happened to Cody after he went AWOL.
Commander Cody was one of a few clones featured inRevenge of the Sith, so seeing his return is long overdue.
