According to a report fromField Level Media,Esports team Gen.G may be on its way to defeatingLoLdefending champions, T1, in the 2025 Esports World Cup. Gen. G is currently undefeated after 23 straight wins this year. The tournament is taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with 12 teams competing for a share of the $2 million prize pool, in one of the biggest Esports tournaments in the world.

T1 and Gen. G have a years-long rivalry throughLoLtournaments. At the 2018 Korea Regional Finals, Gen. G defeated T1 and prevented the team from even qualifying for the World Cup that year. Both of the teams are arguably two of the greatest Esports teams of all time, but Faker from T1 has become one of the most prominent Esports athletes in recent years, even winning Best eSports Athlete atThe Game Awards 2024. Under his leadership, the team has had a powerful presence in theLoLscene.

Gen. G is a newer team that’s been around since 2017. The team underwent a restructuring in 2024, replacing several former members with Kim “Kiin” Gi-in, Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu, and Son “Lehends” Si-woo.The new team found almost immediate success, winning four consecutive titles.
