Few gaming franchises have the chance to not only last as long as Capcom’sResident Evilseries but also to get a second chance at life after a disastrous installment likeResident Evil 6. As if it wasn’t exciting enough to keep getting new installments so long after the franchise’s inception, Capcom has done an excellent job delivering remakes of the original games as well. Even thoughResident Evilwas given everything it needed for a modern resurgence, it seems like Capcom has long forgotten one of its best franchises.

Capcom isn’t the only one to benefit from the success of theResident Evilseries, as even more studios are reviving iconic survival horror franchises from the dead. WithSilent Hillgetting several remakes and new spin-offs to look forward to,it’s not hard to see even more beloved games from the fixed-camera angle era of PlayStation games. Even if there hasn’t been any official word on one of the biggestResident Evilalternatives getting a remake, there’s more than enough incentive to finally bring back this classic series.

The Dino Crisis Series Is Still Talked About For A Reason

A Game That’s Inspirations Are Hard To Forget All These Years Later

If any of Capcom’s classic franchises deserve to come back, theDino Crisisgames are easily at the top of the list for their lasting impact on the genre, inspiring countless exciting projects over the years. Praised for its unique storytelling, visual style, and panic-inducing gameplay, theDino Crisisseries managed to far surpass its humbleResident Evilinspirations. Thankfully, the first two entries in theDino Crisisseries arefinally available on PC, thanks to GOG, but it still doesn’t quite make up for the lack of an entry in the series in over twenty years.

Despite its technical limitations, the atmosphere of the original Dino Crisis games still offers an unforgettable experience, with the haunting dread of Earth’s deadliest predators hunting you always looming. As if its unique gameplay concept wasn’t enough to warrant bringing it back from the dead, the results of Capcom’s very own fan survey make thechance of aDino Crisisreturning in the futuremore likely than ever. AfterDino Crisisplaced second in Capcom’s 2024 vote for the community’s favorite game, it would be more surprising not to see a project in the works.

Even a smaller entry in theDino Crisisfranchise could be a great way to fill the gap between major releases.

Over a year after the community vote itself, Capcom finally issued anew trademark forDino Crisisin March of this year, making the chances of at least one remaster seem extremely likely. WhileCapcom likely has its hands tied dealing withMonster Hunter WildsandResident Evil Requiem, even a smaller entry in theDino Crisisfranchise could be a great way to fill the gap between major releases.

Dino Crisis & Resident Evil Have Plenty Of Similarities

Both Franchises Have More In Common Than You Think

Even if the similarities between the two survival horror franchises likely resulted inDino Crisisgetting overshadowed by its much more famous counterpart, they could make remakes much more viable. Despite the initial concerns about competing with itself, 22 years later,Capcom already has the perfect remaster formula to take advantage of the forgotten series with theResident Evilremakes. With an over-the-shoulder perspective rather than the locked camera and tank controls of the past,Dino Crisisremakes could have even more potential to provide a tension-filled gameplay experience in the modern era.

Given how long it’s been since the lastDino Crisisentry and the similarities with the firstResident Evil’s slower-paced horror focus,Capcom might reserve a full-blown remake for its sequel,Dino Crisis 2. As an action-packed adventure that’s more in line withResident Evil 2or even the more recentResident Evil 4,Dino Crisis 2features protagonists that could more easily show off their unique skills and personalities. After being killed off by a disastrous third entry in the series,Dino Crisismore than deserves the second chance thatResident Evilhad afterRE6’s poor reception.

Inspiring Even More Projects For Both Horror And Dinosaur Fans Alike

Even ifDino Crisishasn’t gotten the official love it deserves over the past 22 years since its third entry, its community is happy to take matters into their own hands. Not only have some fans begun working on their ownDino Crisisremakes, butseveral upcoming dinosaur-themed survival-horror games likeDeathgroundsandInstinctioncould lay the foundation for the franchise’s grand return. Even if the market will be somewhat more saturated, the iconic branding of theDino Crisisname alone will help it stand out from the pack and go toe-to-toe with competitors like the upcomingJurassic Park Survival.

Thankfully, evenResident Evildirector Hideki Kamiya is on board with the idea of aDino Crisisremake, alongside two other Capcom games, showing there is just as much love from industry creatives as there is within the series' longstanding fanbase. Given the sheer number of exciting dinosaur games on the horizon in 2025 and beyond, an officialDino Crisisrelease could be just what we need to enter a new renaissance for the survival horror era of the past.
