An updated rating from the Pan-European Game Information (PEGI) system may have revealed plans to bringAssassin’s Creed Shadowsto theNintendo Switch 2. As the long-requested arrival ofAssassin’s Creedin feudal Japan,Shadowshas become 2025’s second-best-selling game, and may now reach a wider audience on the Switch 2.
PerEurogamer, thePEGIwebsite wasupdated to include the Switch 2 inAssassin’s Creed Shadows' platform availability, but it could only be seen via the home page’s “Most Searched Games” section; the update does not appear if you search forAC Shadows. PEGI is the European equivalent to the U.S.’s ESRB, providing recommended ages at which a game should be purchased and played. Such ratings are often the culprit for leaks of new games or ports, since game publishers submit info and are issued a rating in advance of a game’s release.
AC Shadows Can Continue Its Successful Launch On Nintendo Switch 2
Reaching A New Audience
If the PEGI leak proves accurate, coming to Nintendo Switch 2 may helpAssassin’s Creed Shadowscontinue an already successful run.Shadowshas consistently been at the top of U.S. sales charts since its release, and only trails thewildly successfulMonster Hunter Wildsas 2025’s best-selling game year-to-date. Launching onto the Switch 2 on or shortly after its June 5 release date could bring in a new wave of sales forShadows.
The long-running franchise’s most recent outings have not come to Nintendo platforms, likely because of the original Switch’s hardware limitations.Assassin’s Creed MirageandValhallaboth passed over the Switch, but the latter’s predecessor,Odyssey, did get a Switch port as a cloud-based game, albeit in Japan only. WithShadows' possible port to the Switch 2, developer and publisher Ubisoft seems to have notable support for the console, with Massive Entertainment’sStar Wars Outlawsamong theconfirmed Switch 2 games.
Assassin’s Creed Franchise May Benefit From Another New Console Launch
Following In Valhalla’s Footsteps
Assassin’s Creedhas long been an industry powerhouse, but has risen to new heights in its more recent, open-world titles. 2020’sValhallawas also one of the few brand-new games to launch alongside the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, making it a popular game to pick up with the new hardware.Shadowscould follow a similar path, benefiting from being a new game in a longstanding franchise that comes to brand-new hardware.
Especially withShadows' breadth, being able to play the game piecemeal in handheld mode is quite enticing. There are, however, still outstanding factors, like how well it runs on Nintendo’s new system. Without any official confirmation of the port’s existence, it’s impossible to know if it would take advantage ofDLSS likeCyberpunk 2077or similar technology. Ubisoft hasn’t addressed theAssassin’s Creed ShadowsPEGI rating forNintendo Switch 2yet, but with the console’s release looming, it may only be a matter of time.
