As a quick recap, readers who have followedDC vs. Vampires from the beginning will remember thatDick Grayson was once King of the Vampires. However, he was ultimately betrayed, tricked, and killed by his former love Barbara Gordon, whom he had turned into a vampire. After his death, Barbara claimed the throne for herself.
Characters like Aquaman, Gorilla Grodd, and Wonder Woman soon became Barbara’s closest allies and generals as she began her reign over the vampire race. At the same time, she continued waging war against humanity.That balance shifted whenWorld War Vbrought Darkseid into the picture, posing a massive threat to both humans and vampires.
In response, human resistance leaders Lois Lane, Black Canary, and Green Arrow agreed to a truce with Queen Barbara in order to unite their forces against Darkseid. However, just moments after the truce was sealed, vampireDamian Wayne killed Barbara in revenge for her betrayal of the Bat-Familyby willingly becoming a vampire.

Given that Diana has held the title of Princess of Themyscira for decades, even after thedeath of her queen mother Hippolyta,this promotion to queen feels long overdue.Granted, this isn’t the royal transition fans might have expected, since she now rules vampires instead of Amazons, but it remains a fitting and powerful evolution.
Of course,DC vs. Vampires existsoutside of DC’s main continuity. Still, fans have finally witnessed Diana take the throne in a present-day storyline.
