Warning: Spoilers ahead forResident Alienseason 4, episode 7, “Daddy Issues.“Resident Alienseason 4, episode 7, “Daddy Issues,” sets up a reunion of two members of theFireflycast, which is an event that the show had danced around but ultimately seemed to avoid. Now, two members of theResident Aliencast are about to make fans of the cult-classic 2000s space opera very happy.

Jewel Staite made herResident Aliendebut earlier in season 4, and after a couple of very short scenes that felt almost meaningless, it seemed that her time on the show was over. This surprised me a lot, asit felt like Staite’s casting was something of a gimmickthat would reunite her withResident Alien’s leading man.

Thankfully, “Daddy Issues” proves that showrunner Chris Sheridan does indeed plan to bring Staite and Tudyk’s characters together very soon, giving the actors a rare chance to work together sinceFireflyended with 2005’sSerenitymovie.

Jules Being Revealed As The Mantid Means Alan Tudyk Vs. Jewel Staite Is On The Way In Resident Alien Season 4

“Daddy Issues” ends with the twist of Sheriff Mike Thompson (Corey Reynolds) successfully discovering that Agent Jules Gardner (Jewel Staite) is the Mantid in disguise, and in the throes of a killing spree. AlthoughMike can do nothing to stop the Mantid at present, another big moment in the episode gives Patience hope.

Jewel Staite, who is best known for playing Kaylee Frye onFirefly, will soon be face-to-face with her former co-star Alan Tudyk.

Alan Tudyk’s Harry Vanderpeigleends “Daddy Issues” back in his alien form, which means he’s finally capable of fulfilling his promise to the Galactic Housing Council and will attempt to take down the Mantid. So, Jewel Staite, who is best known for playing Kaylee Frye onFirefly, will soon be face-to-face with her former co-star Alan Tudyk, who played Hoban “Wash” Washburn on the show.

Resident Alien’s Big Jules Twist Pays Off 2 Disappointing Season 4 Character “Exits”

Jules & the Mantid were introduced together for a reason

At one point inResident Alienseason 4,the Mantid was believed dead, and it seemed that Agent Garder’s brief role in the story was complete. Both characters had huge potential for different reasons, so I was devastated that they each seemed to have made such early exits. Now, I’m relieved to know neither figure has been wasted.

In fact, both characters are strongly connected. Although Jules was likely a genuine FBI agent when Staite made her debut, the reveal of the Mantid taking her from strongly implies the original Jules is now dead. Therefore, in a very quick turnaround,Staite has probably gone from having oneResident Aliencharacter to two.

Furthermore, Jewel Staite being cast in such an important role makesResident Alien’s otherFireflyreunion seem less like a failure. Nathan Fillion voiced the octopus named 42 before his character was filled. Fillion was great, but it would have been much better to see him in a live-action role opposite Tudyk. While that never happened, at leastResident Alienis handling Staite’s presence better.
