Colleen Hooveris a major player in the world of literaryromance, andseveral of her best-selling novels are set to receive film adaptations in the near future. With a fewColleen Hoover moviescoming, now is the perfect time to review some of the author’s work, breaking down how exciting each of these new projects is.
Hoover’s latest adaptation,It Ends With Us, was a big hit last year, butit caused some significant controversy between the director, Justin Baldoni, and his female lead, Blake Lively. While asequel toIt Ends With Us, entitledIt Starts With Us, may move forward eventually, these complications have slowed development on a follow-up.
Still, the author has written a great number of novels, and many of them could be turned into greatColleen Hoover movies. With a body of work that exceeds two dozen novels, there is great potential in her forthcoming adaptations. As it stands, only three films are in active production, but they all have their release dates set.
3Reminders of Him
Early next year,in February,Reminders of Himwill release in cinemas. The film stars Maika Monroe as Kenna, a woman who has just been released from prison after serving several years for involuntary manslaughter. During a drunk driving accident, her actions resulted in the death of her boyfriend, Scotty.
Before going to prison,Kenna gave birth to a baby girl, who was immediately placed in custody with Scotty’s parents. The story of the novel centers around Kenna returning home and having to deal with her grief, her loss, and her regret, as she attempts to find a way to see her daughter once again.
The book is a huge tear-jerker, and the movie will likely end up being the same.It filmed in Calgary earlier this year and is directed by Vanessa Caswill, who has mostly worked in television. Caswill did also direct the 2023 Netflix filmLove at First Sight, but her cinematic style inReminders of Himremains to be seen.
Reminders of Himhas a good cast, with the aforementioned Monroe starring alongside Rudy Pankow and Tyriq Withers.Bradley Whitford and Lauren Graham play Scotty’s parents. With multiple generations of strong performers, largely pulled from television, the movie promises a powerful, relatable story.
Reminders of Youwill likely be great, although there is little about this film that seems to have it set up for the levels of success the other upcoming Hoover adaptations have. The cast is strong, but does not contain any huge movie stars, andthe February release suggests the film may not be expected to be a major hit.
Still, the novel examines some complex relationships, and there will be much for those who have appreciated Hoover’s prior work.Promising complex, gripping, and emotional moments, alongside compelling relationships and romantic dynamics, the film is already one of the most exciting releases of early next year.
2Regretting You
The next Hoover adaptation has the potential to be very special. With thefirst trailer forRegretting Youconnecting with audiences already,it is clear that the new film could be a big hit when it releases on October 24 of this year.
Starring Allison Williams, Scott Eastwood, Willa Fitzgerald, and Dave Franco as the older characters, the story promises the emotional exploration of several complicated figures and dynamics. In addition, the film will likely find success from the appeal of its young stars.
Mason Thames recently broke through after starring in this year’sHow to Train Your Dragon, which was a huge hit at the box office. In this film, he is paired alongside his rumored real-life girlfriend Mckenna Grace, who is also on the rise after starring in the recentGhostbusters: Afterlifeand its sequel.
Thames and Grace are both among two of the biggest young stars of today, and their genuinely effective chemistry could go a long way in establishing this. Both have great charisma, and could help this film to break through with younger audiences in a big way.
The story of the film chronicles the lives of Morgan (Williams) and her daughter Clara (Grace) after the death of Chris (Eastwood), Morgan’s husband and Clara’s father. After this event, it comes out thatthere was a dark secret involving Chris and Morgan’s sister Jenny (Fitzgerald)that casts a cold sheen over their entire lives.
Dave Franco’s role inTogetherhas shown what a great actor he has become, and Williams remained one of the best parts of theM3GANseries in its recent sequel, despite that film’s box office failure. With the younger and older sets of actors, the film has the potential to connect with multiple generations.
Confronting grief in a heart-wrenching story,Regretting Youwill capture multiple generations in a complex story about loss, family, love, and moving forward. While Josh Boone’s track record has not been perfect, the director found great success withThe Fault in Our Stars, and his talents could play very well here.
1Verity
Verityis the most exciting upcoming Colleen Hoover adaptation, and for several reasons.Everything known aboutVerityshows that the film is poised to be a big release for Amazon MGM Studios, andit is currently set for release in October 2026,having been pushed back from its original planned date in May.
The story ofVeritysees Lowen Ashleigh being contacted by the husband of famed author Verity Crawford.Ashleigh, a struggling writer, is commissioned with the task of finishing Verity’s successful but unfinished series of novels. After a mysterious accident, Verity is no longer able to do so herself.
This setup leads into a thriller that is packed full of exciting twists and turns.Verity’s story and psychological state are called into question, and the plot of the movie goes down some dark pathways as it sets up an engaging thriller.
The cast of the upcoming film is incredible.Anne Hathaway plays the titular author, and this will be among her most exciting 2026 films, following the release ofThe Devil Wears Prada 2. Dakota Johnson, star of this year’sMaterialists, will play Ashleigh, with Josh Hartnett returning to the big screen as Verity’s husband.
Both Hartnett and Johnson are such compelling choices for the film. Following Johnson’s past in dramatic thrillers likeFifty Shades of Grey, and Hartnett’s recent return to acting inOppenheimer, their presences could add a great deal to the film.
Michael Abbott Jr.
Unknown
Veritycould be a very big deal. The film is directed by Michael Showalter, who has a unique and eclectic body of work. While he was originally best known for absurdist comedies, includingWet Hot American Summer, his body of work has evolved with the release of films includingThe Eyes of Tammy FayeandThe Big Sick.
This October release could coincide with an awards push for the film. With a strong cast, and such a compelling director,it is certainly possible that the new film has been deemed to have awards potential, which resulted in its release being pushed back. Either way, October releases have tended to be strong for adult-oriented thrillers.
Showalter is a unique voice to helm the project, and with such a great cast, it seems likely thatVeritycould be one of the biggest hits in theromancegenre next year.Colleen Hoover has several exciting novels that could be adapted in the coming years, but these three are perhaps the most exciting of all.
