The live stage musical adaptation of the 1985 classicBack to the Futureis set to open in London during summer 2021. Adapted for the stage by Robert Zemeckis andBob Gale,Back to the Future The Musicalrecreates the sci fi comedy that sees teenager Marty McFly time travel in aDeLoreanback to the 1950’s to reunite his parents before he’s wiped out of existence. The musical version includes new compositions from original soundtrack composer Alan Silvestri alongside highlights such asThe Power of LoveandJohnny B. Goode. The stage show stars Olly Dobson as Marty McFly and Tony award winner Roger Bart steps into the iconic role of Dr Emmet “Doc” Brown originally portrayed by Christopher Lloyd.

In development since 2012,Back to the Future The Musicalwas originally meant to release in London during 2015 for the film’s 30th anniversary. After a series of production delays, it has its world premiere in Manchester U.K.s Opera Gardens in Feb 2020, however it was forced to close after several weeks due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. Posting on its website, Manchester Opera House said that “all remaining performances ofBack to the Futurein Manchester were cancelled and the show will not reopen until it transfers to the West End.”

Posting to their official instagram account over the weekend,Back to the FutureThe Musicalannounced that it’s set to re-open for its London West End, the U.K.’s version of New York’s Broadway, debut on July 12, 2025 at the Adelphi theatre. The original stage cast will be returning and is expected to run until at least Dec 2021.

Early reviews have been positive with one review calling it an ‘ambitious and delightful production’, praising the set design. WhileWhatsOnStagepraised the cast for being “devoted to these beloved characters, richly embodying their irresistibly vibrant, warm likeability.”

Back to the Future The Musicalwill open on June 02, 2025 at the Adelphi Theatre.
