Word ofScarlet Nexusarriving on Game Pass spread only a couple of days ago, withjournalist and insider Jeff Grubbsaying he had heard as such. However, earlier today, a Bandai Namco representative contacted VGC to shut down the claim. All they said was that there are currently no plans to release the game on Game Pass and it is still on track to release for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.

While the claim may have been incorrect, it’s understandable why it was so believable. Although it is releasing on PlayStation consoles, Microsoft has a very close relationship withScarlet Nexus. Not only was the demo made available on the Xbox platforms a week earlier than the PlayStation demo, but the game wasoriginally announced for Xbox consolesduring one of Microsoft’s presentations. It wasn’t confirmed for PlayStation until some time after.
Releasing a brand new title essentially for free for some players is also something of a risky move; one Bandai Namco possibly isn’t willing to take. However, this process has proven to be beneficial.Square Enix’sOutriders, for example, was available on Game Pass the same day it launched and, despite also being a new IP, wound up being very successful in terms of sales. It was even one of the ten best-selling Xbox games of March.
Even ifScarlet Nexuswon’t be releasing on Game Pass any time soon, this doesn’t necessarily mean it never will. The service receives new games on a regular basis so it’s very possible that it will eventually be added some time down the line, just not immediately.
As a reminder,Scarlet Nexusis an action RPG from staff who worked on theTalesseries of RPGs. Described as a brain-punk game, players take control of one of two playable characters and use various psychic powers to battle against bizarre monsters called Others.
Scarlet Nexusreleases for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on June 25th.
