In a twist everyone saw coming,Below Deck Down Under’s embattled Bosun,Wihan du Toit, was relieved of his dutiesby Captain Jason Chambers after causing drama among the entire crew. Enter his replacement,Nate Salmon, 29, who hails from Sydney, Australia. Nate arrived on super yacht Katina in the Seychelles nearly 24 hours after Wihan was fired, looking ready to work. He strolled up the dock with fully tattooed arms, a mustache, and a no-nonsense attitude, ready to lead an exterior team that desperately needed structure.
Captain Jason described Nate and the other new crew member, deckhand Nicolas Cattelan, as “a breath of fresh air” for the crew, who had been turned upside down because of the season’s many romantic squabbles and inner-department tension. Nate and Nic arrived during the day when a charter was scheduled for that evening, so they didn’t have much time to waste. If Nate wanted to improve on Wihan’s performance as Bosun, all Nate needed to do was take charge and lead.

Nate Is 29 Years Old
According to Nate’s CV, he’s 29 years old.Bravoreported that Nate was born on July 13, 2025, making him a Sagittarius. Those born under the sign of Sagittarius are known for being adventurous, which Nate is.
Being cast onBelow Deck Down Underproves that Nate has a taste for adventure and travel, and his social media profile also reflects this, as he often shares photos of his various travels with his friends.
Nate revealed in his first episode that he has two older sisters, and he thinks this is a strength becauseit taught him how to listen. “I was raised by strong women, surrounded by strong women,” he boasted during a confessional, describing his childhood as being made up and dressed up by his sisters. He seemed to be able to laugh at himself, and it’s clear he loves his sisters and values the way he was raised.
When asked by Bravo who he misses the most when he’s traveling or working, he said it was his mom, telling the network she was his “rock.” Nate also said he’s well-versed in Bravo due to being raised with his older sisters, sayinghe’s watched “a lot of The Real Housewives.“Sounds like Nate will be right at home onBelow Deck Down Under.
Nate Salmon’s Job
Nate Is A Bosun On Super Yacht Katina
InBelow Deck Down Underseason 3, Nate replaces Wihan as the ship’s Bosun, meaning the head of the exterior crew. Nate has worked in yachting for seven years, with four years of experience as a Bosun. Nate also worked for a couple of years as a kids' party entertainer, which I’m sure we’ll hear more about when Nate assists with some guest dinners.
When Nate arrived on Katina at such short notice, he mentioned to Captain Jason that he’d come from the Himalayas, where he’d been backpacking after taking some time off from work in Sydney. Nate might have a case of wanderlust, which is very fitting for a yachtie since he’ll get to travel while working.Nate seems like just the right person to come in and clean up Wihan’s mess.

Nate Appears To Have A Romance With Alesia
Since Nate only made his introduction toBelow Deck Down Undermidway through the last episode, we haven’t had a chance to get to know him well. Thanks to scenes from next week, however, we knowhe sets his sights on Alesia as a potential boatmance. Now that Johnny has been sacked, Alesia might find a good distraction in Nate.
As far as his abilities, Nate seems to have the stuff to back up his resume. He wasn’t intimidatedby coming onto a ship mid-charter season, and he seemed game to jump right in and start leading. Like he told Captain Jason, coming onto the ship was “absolute chaos, but it’s the way I like it.”
