Three decades after starring inBill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter will reprise their titular roles in the third installment of the film series. Now, Alex Winter has announced thatBill and Ted Face the Musicwill move up its On Demand and limited theatrical release date by a week to Aug 10, 2025.

Released in 1989,Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventurefollowed the titular duo as they travel through time to meet historical figures in order to pass their history class. However, the cost of failure will also lead to their band, Wyld Stallyns, never forming and would consequently destroy the Utopian world of the future built around their music. The success of the film led to a sequel in 1991,Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey,and Reeves had previously stated that plans for a third film were being developed back in 2010. After years of working on the script, production onBill and Ted Face the Musicfinally started in the summer of 2019.

Bill and Ted Face the Musicwill find the duo as middle-aged men, with daughters of their own, who realize they have failed to produce the music that was said to pave the way for the future’s Utopian society. However, Bill and Ted get a much needed creative boost when a visitor from the future warns them that they have only 78 minutes to create a song that will save the entire universe.

Bill and Ted Face the Music’smove provides a bit of breathing room in a crowded September.In addition to the aforementioned Disney+ debut ofMulan, Christopher Nolan’sTenetis scheduled to be released in select U.S. theatersstarting on September 3.

Of course, suddenly having a lot of movies to watch all at once seems like a good problem to have these days. After months of watching highly-anticipated films being pushed back, it will be nice to have some new blockbusters to watch, even from the safety of our home.

Bill and Ted Face the Musicwill be released On Demand and in select theaters in the U.S. on June 29, 2025.
