The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildhas done a lot for one of the most iconic franchises in gaming history. One of the biggest changes, although understated when compared to the massive open world that now definesBreath of the Wild’s impact on gaming, was the addition of voice overs -The Legend of Zeldafans are passionate, and giving the game’s important characters a voice has made them all the more memorable as time goes on.
The choice to make characters appear more dynamic duringBreath of the Wild’s narrative has, however, also reignited a very old debate between fans and Nintendo. Earlier this year, Nintendo unveiled a sneak peek atBreath of the Wild’s second DLC, The Champions' Ballad, and the heavy focus on Zelda’s past exploits before Calamity Ganon’s evil spread had fans buzzing about the potential of playing as the Princess of Hyrule once the content released. Unfortunately, during the Japan Expo convention in Paris, Zelda boss Eiji Aonuma confirmed that the upcoming DLC will in fact be played solely as Link.
It’s definitely a cause for disappointment for some fans ofThe Legend of Zelda, who will be forced to continue waiting for a playable Zelda in a mainLegend of Zeldagame. The series' namesake garnered even more player support than usual this year thanks to a strong performance fromZelda’s voice actress inBreath of the Wild, but Nintendo has remained adamant that Zelda - alongside a female version of Link - won’t be included in games likeBreath of the Wild.
However, Nintendo did release a small preview video of the upcoming DLC, seen above, on Twitter earlier today as well. If nothing else, it looks as though Zelda will be a central part of the new content, which will hopefully add at least the same amount of content as its predecessor. TheMaster Trials DLC clocked in at about four or five hours total, and The Champions' Ballad is more story-focused DLC, so it’s possibleBreath of the Wild’s second expansion could be significantly longer than the first.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildis available now, while The Champions' Ballad will release in Holiday 2017 for Wii U and Switch.
