Call of Duty2019, which by all reports is expected to beModern Warfare 4, is reportedly receiving some help with its single-player campaign from developers who previously worked at Naughty Dog. This comes from Infinity Ward senior level designer Mike Denny during a stream of Respawn Entertainment’sApex Legends. It has been known for some time that the nextCall of Dutywould feature a story campaign, but it’s still good to know that the story is getting extra attention.
This may very well be due to the fact thatBlack Ops 4did not have a single-player campaign, which was met with some criticism. It may not have hurt the game in the long run, but many voiced that they would never buy it without a campaign, which sounds like something Infinity Ward is trying to avoid.Call of Duty2019 not only has a story mode per Denny, but ex-Naughty Dog developers have been “helping a lot with story stuff.”
Naughty Dog, perhaps best known for theUnchartedseries andThe Last of Us, even had some influence on the campaign mode forInfinite Warfare, as two major Naughty Dog developers had formally been hired on at the time. Although it received some criticism for its multiplayer mode, the campaign mode inInfinite Warfarewas generally well-received, hopefully meaning the same magic will be worked on the campaign forCall of Duty2019. If nothing else, Infinity Ward has a good record of collaboration to get the most out of its campaign.
With this news in mind, many are likely wondering when Call of Duty 2019 will be officially revealed to the world (and presumably confirmed to beModern Warfare 4). Recent leaks from GameStop’s internal system database suggest that anofficialCall of Dutyreveal date announcement could come in June, if not by the end of May. Even if this leak is true, it’s worth mentioning that this could be changed at any time, so take that news with a grain of salt.
Beyond the collaboration between Infinity Ward and ex-Naughty Dog devs, internal relationships are likely to bolsterCall of Duty2019’s story component as well. And with formerModern Warfaredevs returning to Infinity Ward, it seems as if the studio is positioned to keep theCall of Dutyhype train moving forward.
