So far, all we’ve seen ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfareis the campaign mode, but that is set to change later this week at E3 when the game is showcased as part of anE3 Coliseum event. It’s possible that this event will give fans their first look atCall of Duty: Modern Warfare’s multiplayer, as well as its co-op mode, which has now been revealed to be the returning Spec Ops from pastModern Warfaregames.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2andModern Warfare 3both featured a co-op mode called Spec Ops, where players could complete challenges with a friend to earn stars. These mini-missions would ramp up in difficulty the more players were able to complete, and were home to some fairly notable moments. Spec Ops in the newCall of Duty: Modern Warfarewill be largely the same.

“Co-Op is going to be the same thing,” according to one Infinity Ward dev speaking during an E3 livestream. “But it’s Spec Ops like you’ve never seen before; Spec Ops to the 11th power. Crank the knob off, break it, and then throw it away.”

One difference between Spec Ops inCall of Duty: Modern Warfareand the Spec Ops mode featured in pastCall of Dutygames is that this version will apparently have a narrative. “It can have a narrative this time. The narrative goes across all the modes. It’s one universe,” explained Infinity Ward. One of the goals Infinity Ward has withCall of Duty: Modern Warfareis achieving consistency and continuity between all of the game modes, so “the story continues in all modes.”

It’s possible we will get a look at thestory-based co-op inCall of Duty: Modern Warfarewhen the game is showcased as part of the E3 Coliseum event on Tuesday, June 11 at 3pm PT. That’s unconfirmed at this time, but anyone looking forward toCall of Duty: Modern Warfareand the return of Spec Ops should definitely tune in just in case.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfarewill launch on October 25 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
