Massive Monster’sCult of the Lambis a deceptively simple roguelite from the outside. Players are instantly thrown into combat sections during the beginning moments of the game and may feel as if they’re playing any other dungeon-crawling, procedurally generated adventure. All of that changes, however, once players make it successfully through the combat tutorial and are whisked away to their own small plot of land. Here, players are introduced toCult of the Lamb’ssurprisingly deep town-management mechanic.

One of the most important aspects of this community builder is unlocking and securing building recipes via Divine Intervention. Players that gain enough devotion from their followers will gain Divine Intervention points which can then be used to unlock recipes via the “structure tree.” There are a lot of buildings to unlock and some of them are much more useful than others. Here’s a look at some of the best structures to unlock in the early portions of the game, when players are just beginning to build their cult.

How To Unlock Divine Inspiration

Before players can unlock buildings, they’ll first need to gain access to the Divine Inspiration mechanic as a whole. Thankfully, finding and unlocking this aspect of the game is guaranteed, as players will progress through a series of tutorials that will help them to understand how to run their cult. Once players have progressed far enough, they’ll be given the option to purchase a Shrine. This Shrine acts as a conduit for Devotion, which players will use to gain Divine Inspiration points.

In order to gain Devotion, players must interact with followers and instruct them to Pray at the Shrine. Over time, players will see the Devotion bar of the Shrine fill up, and they can interact with it to gain the stored Devotion from it. Once the appropriate EXP-style Devotion bar is filled from gaining the “currency,” players will unlock a Devotion Point, which can be spent by using the Shrine, which will give players access to a tree that contains many building recipes.

Lumber Yard

When players are first dropped into Cult of the Lamb’s “town space,” they’ll find a variety of trees that they can cut down (or instruct followers to cut down) that will reward them with Wood. Wood is a useful primary resource and players will be using a lot of it during their adventure, especially in the earlier parts of the game. Unfortunately, once all of the trees are felled within the area, players must wait multiple days (in-game time) for them to grow back before they can harvest them for multiple Wood pieces again.

To combat this, players can unlock the Lumber Yard, which is part of the Second Tier of the Divine Inspiration tree. Unlocking and building the Lumber Yard will allow the player to construct a village to work in the structure and generate Wood.

Shelter

Also available in Tier II, the Shelter acts as housing for a player’s conscripted followers, giving them an area to sleep and escape the elements. Villagers will automatically sleep at night, and when they lack a structure or Sleeping Bag, they will simply fall asleep on the ground, which can be both a danger and cause dissatisfaction from the cult as a whole. To combat this, players will need to give their followers a dedicated place to sleep.

Sleeping Bags are available as an unlock from the First Tier, but they’re prone to breaking down and must be fixed every few nights. This can be a massive resource drain, especially for Wood, as players will need to continuously repair the Sleeping Bags. By upgrading the Sleeping Bags to Shelters, players won’t have to worry nearly as much about repairing them (although they can still break down), and cult members won’t be left out to the elements.

Farm Plot

One of the first things that players should consider investing in is the Farm Plot. This placable piece of land allows players to plant seeds, which will then grow into various items which are necessary for cooking meals and snacks. Although it is possible to players to find food while adventuring and clearing dungeons, it’s not very reliable, as most food is encountered via random paths that split within each zone.

Food is an incredibly important commodity in Cult of the Lamb, as cultists can become angry, sick, or even die, if they suffer from hunger for too long. Building a series of Farm Plots, and keeping them stocked with seeds, can reward players with berries and other materials necessary to keep their flock fed.

Outhouse

Once players start amassing a following, they may start to notice little “gifts” sprinkled around their camp. Cultists that consume food will need to expel waste, and at the start they’ll simply do it anywhere they want. Players can clean up the piles of dung on their own, which will reward them with fertilizer that can be used to accelerate the growth of crops in the farm plot. Unfortunately, once players start growing their flock, they’ll find themselves inundated with excrement.

Not only is dung unsightly, but it can also actually make cultists sick if left lying around. Thankfully, there’s a building that can help combat the unsanitary conditions. Once Tier III is unlocked, players can build an outhouse, which will give cultists a dedicated place to leave their waste, keeping the surrounding areas clean.

Prison

Followers that begin to lose Faith in the Lamb may end up dissenting, which can cause huge issues if left in check. Players can attempt to re-educate the Follower but will only have one chance to re-convert them per day. To make matters worse, if players allow the dissenting cultist to roam free, they will attempt to turn other cultists against the Lamb, further draining Faith and potentially causing even further dissenters to pop up.

To keep these cultists in check, and keep them firmly rooted for re-education, players can construct a Prison. This buildable stockade, available in Tier II, will allow players to imprison the dissenter to keep them from spreading anti-Lamb rhetoric.

Demonic Summoning Circle

Combat can be pretty unforgiving for the Lamb, especially as players begin to progress to more difficult zones and fight upgraded enemies. Players that need a bit of help slicing through their enemies can use the Demonic Summoning Circle to transform a cult member into a demonic entity that will assist them when skulking through dungeons. Different cult members have different buffs, and these upgrades can be exceptionally useful in the early game for anyone that’s struggling.

The Demonic Summoning Circle is available from Tier II, and can also be upgraded into a better form when players hit Tier III. The upgrade will allow them to bring along two cultists at once, further improving the Lamb’s available buffs when on an expedition.

Farming Bundle

Although players will find themselves flipping back and forth between dungeon running and town management, it’s important to note that time prattles on. Although players may find themselves fighting through hordes of enemies, the clock will continue to run and the cult will proceed to interact with one another even while the player is away. Players that spend too much time in a dungeon may find themselves inundated with tasks as soon as they arrive back in their village.

Although Farm Plots are a great way to grow food, they require water to grow effectively. Players can opt to water them on their own, but with a growing farm, it can be a chore to water every plot, especially if a player is busy. Thankfully, the Farming Bundle can aid in this pain by allowing the Lamb to instruct a follower to tend to the farms. This particular upgrade is available in Tier I, right from the start, as soon as players unlock the Farm Plot.

Seed Silo

Another part of the Farming Bundle, the Seed Silo is a great way for players to create an automated food source early on. Although the Farming Bundle will create a farm-centric cult member, they’ll only tend to previously planted crops. That means players will be forced to plant new seeds once the crop has been harvested.

This upgrade (which is available after unlocking the Farm Plot and is part of the Farming Bundle), will allow players to fill a box with seeds, which cultists will then grab and plant entirely on their own, eliminating the need for the Lamb to get their hands dirty.
