Warning! This article contains spoilers for Daredevil: Born AgainDirector Aaron Moorhead weighs in on the possibility of having Foggy Nelson return in theMCUafterDaredevil: Born Again. A few years after the events ofDaredevilseason 3 andAvengers: Endgame,Foggy Nelson’s abrupt deathkicked offDaredevil: Born Again’s plot, which rekindled the three-way feud between Matt Murdock, Wilson Fisk, and Ben Poindexter. Aside from revealing thatVanessa Fisk is the mastermind behind Foggy Nelson’s death,Daredevil: Born Againalso hides a reference to 2006’sDaredevil #88a.k.a. “The Secret Life of Foggy Nelson”, which reveals Foggy faked his death in the comics.

In a new interview withTHR,Daredevil: Born Againdirector Aaron Moorhead acknowledges the fact that the series' easter egg to Foggy Nelson’s faked death from the comics was caught quickly by fans. Moorhead doesn’t confirm whether this comic book reference actually sets up a similar storyline in the MCU, but he reminds viewers that"dying very often does mean that you’re actually dead"in the MCU series. Foggy, Vanessa, and Wilson Fisk from Daredevil: Born Again (2025) above a blood-stained background

“I’ve heard this theory, you eagle-eyed geniuses. I would love to tell you, however, Marvel will snipe me if I say anything else. But what is really nice about Daredevil being a street-level superhero is that, generally, the supernatural doesn’t really interact with this universe as much, even though it is within the MCU. So that often gives much stronger consequences where punches hurt more and blood means more and getting hurt means more and dying very often does mean that you’re actually dead. But that’s all I can say.”

What The Daredevil: Born Again Director’s Foggy Fan Theory Comments Mean

Foggy Nelson’s Story May Not Follow The Same Beats As The Comics

In the comics, Foggy Nelson survives a knife attack while visiting Matt Murdock in prison, and he enters a witness protection program before reuniting with Matt and recovering his regular lifestyle. Bullseye’s sniper shot makes this possibility much less likely in the MCU. The fact that Foggy’s death is the main inciting event inDaredevil: Born Againalso reduces the chances of Foggy’s return. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe draws plenty of inspiration from the comics, death is a more definitive concept in the live-action franchise’s street-level stories.

In the source material, Matt Murdock helps Foggy Nelson fake his death a second time after “The Secret Life of Foggy Nelson,” and Foggy actually dies some time afterward. Daredevil then sacrificed his life to save Foggy’s life from limbo, allowing Foggy to rebuild his life in the world of the living. A similar sequence of events is a regular sight in the comics, but it would be too far-fetched in live-action. Hence, Elden Henson’s Foggy Nelson is more likely to stay dead in the MCU.
