Destiny 2’s newest Crucible mode,Breakthrough, has been put on an unexpected hiatus after issues cropped up with the game mode. After making its debut as the featured playlist of the week last week, Breakthrough was added to the Competitive playlist as of this week’s reset. The game’s developer, Bungie, let players know via its support account on Twitter:
Breakthrough garnered generally positive reactions from players when it first debuted, but once it was added toDestiny 2’s Competitive playlist, players began to complain about the mode, saying it shouldn’t be in the Competitive playlist. However, that does not appear to be the reason Breakthrough was removed from the game.
While Bungie did not specify the exact reason, many players are reporting that they were able to abuse the mode, making it last indefinitely. In this screenshot posted by@13_hemion Twitter, this particular game went on for over two hours.
It doesn’t sound like any love has been lost with the removal ofBreakthroughwith fans reacting on Twitter and Reddit with relief that the mode has been removed. Despite being removed for technical reasons, fans are saying that they appreciate the removal of the mode from Competitive, especially for those who are seeking some of the Crucible’s pinnacle rewards likethe Not Forgotten hand cannon.
Bungie did not provide any estimate as to when Breakthrough could return toDestiny 2, just saying to continue to follow its support account, @BungieHelp, on Twitter for updates and information once it becomes available.
A similar issue of endless matches cropped up from time to time back in various PvP modes inDestiny 1, but this is the first time Bungie has acted quickly to remove the mode. Many fans are hoping that the mode will come back not only fixed from a technical standpoint, but also with some additional gameplay tweaks to make it better.
