Today’sDestiny 2update is packed with new content for players to experience, from the return of the Shattered Throne dungeon to theMalfeasance Gambit bossspawning at a higher rate. And that’s not even counting the fact that Iron Banner and Festival of the Lost are active, giving players tons of reasons to grind.
However, alongside theDestiny 2update, Bungie also appears to have snuck in a little something extra. There is an unknown exotic weapon in the Collections tab now and speculation is running wild.
The most popular theory right now is that this exotic is part of the Festival of the Lost event. In the trailer for Festival of the Lost, Bungie revealed that the event would conclude with a murder mystery and presumably some form of reward. Speculation is that this reward is the mystery exotic.
Taking things a step further,Destiny 2fans are hoping that the exotic will be the Thunderlord exotic heavy machine gun. The belief is that Bungie will give players Thunderlord as a type of tease before the launch of theBlack Armory DLCin December, which will reintroduce heavy machine guns back into the game.
If true, this would tie into a prior rumor about the Black Armory DLC that claimed the add-on wouldbring back three popular exotic weaponsfromDestiny 1: The Last Word hand cannon, Icebreaker sniper rifle, and Thunderlord. In essence, if Thunderlord does unlock as part of the murder mystery Festival of the Lost quest then the chances of Last Word and Icebreaker returning grow.
Of course, this is all speculation. An exotic appearing in the database does not mean it will unlock anytime soon and it does not mean it is tied to the Festival of the Lost. Still, the timing is enough to have players hopeful that there is going to be a big reward by the time the Halloween event concludes on November 6th.
Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
