Destiny 2will soon be getting strike-specific loot with the Forsaken expansion coming in September, although developer Bungie was not entirely clear on how this would roll out in the game. Strike specific loot is a feature for which many fans have been asking since the launch of the game, and to be fair, a form of this came with theNightfall Strike exclusivesadded to the game earlier this year.

While that was an addition that was a step in the right direction, the question that keeps getting asked by longtime fans is for strike specific loot to return toDestiny 2in the same form that existed inDestiny 1by the end of its lifespan. Early on inDestiny 1, strike specific loot did not exist either, but with the many expansions and updates over the course of three years, especially The Taken King, numerous strikes were given their own unique gear that could only be found as a random drop after defeating that strike.

How Destiny 2 Forsaken’s New Breakthrough PvP Mode Works

Strike specific loot motivated players to keep playing strikes well after they had “finished” all the activities inDestiny 1, and without that motivation inDestiny 2many fans have critiqued the game’s strike activities as giving them no reason to continue playing them. That observation has gone for both the regular strike playlist, and even much more so forthe Heroic Strike playlistwhere the difficulty is much higher but completing those strikes do not really award a particularly beneficial reward.

So, while Bungie was unclear exactly how strike specific loot will work inDestiny 2onceForsakencomes out, the sentiment of the question that was collected from players by Game informer no doubt comes from this context. Bungie has shown many times throughout its time previewing Forsaken that it is looking to bring back the “hobby” ofDestinywith the upcoming DLC, so hopefully that extends to meeting players’ expectations when it comes to strike specific loot.

Destiny 2: Forsakenreleases on August 13, 2025 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
