Bungie today revealed that a forthcoming update will preventDestiny 2players from hoarding bounties to get a leg up on their power level grind in a new season. The change will go into effect ahead of the launch of Season 6: Season of the Drifter and the Joker’s Wild add-on forDestiny 2.
Prior to this upcoming change, players could hold on to completed bounties and use them as a way to gain extra powerful rewards in a new Season. It’s why someDestiny 2players werealready at the power level capby the time the Scourge of the Past raid launched, despite only having three days to grind.
These players held onto completed bounties from Iron Banner, tons ofLast Wish raid keys, Wanted bounties from Spider, and more in order to ensure they had tons of powerful rewards to boost their characters. As a result, a debate sparked within the Destiny 2 community over whether this was a legitimate strategy and if Bungie should do something to prevent it in the future. Clearly, Bungie sided with those who prefer entering a season on an even playing field.
After the update, each bounty from a given season will have an associated power level cap. So a Gambit Weekly Bounty acquired during season 5 will be able to reward gear up to power level 650, but one acquired in season 6 will top out at 700. Bungie also warns that players should avoid carrying over any bounties from a previous season, as it could prevent them from picking up the same bounty in the following week.
Interestingly, this will be the first time thatDestiny 2has offered a power level increase without a new raid (or lair) to prepare for. So while the goal will still be to hit power level 700 inJoker’s Wild, it may not be as important to get there as fast. Without a race to World’s First, the focus will instead be on getting leveled up to complete the new activities included with the DLC, which are themed around Gambit and the Drifter.
Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
