The Sequel Could Look Outside Kumandra

Raya and the Last Dragonstarts with a brief prologue that describes how Kumandra once existed as a prosperous society, long before it fractured into five warring chiefdoms. After the ending ofRaya and the Last Dragon,it seems as though the chiefdoms are reuniting, but working together for the first time in 500 years won’t necessarily be easy. Despite this upbeat ending, there’s a lot of potential for aRaya and the Last Dragonsequel to explore the growing pains of this new era of peace, as old enemies struggle to become friends.

A sequel could also answer one of the biggest mysteries hanging over the first movie. There’s no indication of what lies beyond the borders of Kumandra. The five chiefdoms are preoccupied with fighting the druun and guarding their fragments of Sisu’s gem, but an era of prosperity could give them the chance to turn their attention outwards for once. This would also be a good way to introduce some new characters or creatures for the sequel, as the edges of the map expand andRaya and the Last Dragongets a chance to deepen its worldbuilding.

There could also be other dark forces at play in Kumandra, or other ways for the druun to return. With Kumandra working together, it gives a potential sequel movie the chance to explore how the different characters from across the land might be able to band together to fight a common enemy, whether this is the druun or something else entirely. There could also be other corners of Kumandra that Raya is yet to explore.

A Sequel Could Focus On The Relationship Between Raya And Namaari

The Two Enemies Could Become Friends

Raya and Namaari have a lot more in common than they think. Although fate places them on opposite sides of a fierce conflict, they are both princesses who have been forced to toughen up, while holding on to dreams of peace to different degrees. The ending ofRaya and the Last Dragonsuggests that they could be move forward as friends, rather than enemies, but it’s unclear what exactly this will entail. It’s possible that they will be key figures in the rebuilding of Kumandra, perhaps taking on leadership roles alongside their parents.

ARaya and the Last Dragonsequel could see Raya and Namaari finally teaming up and using their incredible martial arts skills in tandem.Their fight scenes are some of the most exciting glimpses of action in the first movie, so having them on the same side could kick things up a notch. The one dark cloud hanging over their potential friendship could be Virana. Namaari’s mother always seems especially distrustful and resistant to the idea of change. She all but reveals herself to be the true villain when she forbids Namaari from using the gem to revive the people encased in stone by the druun, so she may not take to the idea of a united Kumandra kindly.

Sisu’s Role Among The Dragons After Reviving Them Could Be Explored

The Other Dragons Could Become Important Characters

Awkwafina provides a jolt of energy in thecast ofRaya and the Last Dragon.Although Sisu is obviously central to the plot, she also acts as the comic relief a lot of the time. A sequel would have to adapt her role, but this could be a good thing. Sisu feels like the black sheep in her family, although when her siblings entrust her with the gem, she begins to feel more accepted. The ending ofRaya and the Last Dragontransforms her character, so a sequel could explore howher newfound confidence might give her a new social standing among her fellow dragons.

With the return of the dragons, Kumandra will probably change beyond recognition, as the humans have to adapt to a new way of life alongside the dragons. Aside from Sisu’s four siblings, there appear to be dozens of other dragons at the very least. These new characters could all be important in a potential sequel, depending on where the story goes. Since Sisu and her family all have different abilities,it’s possible that a sequel could show the dozens of different powers which other dragons all across Kumandra have.

Sisu could become a hero to the dragons after her triumph over the druun. The fact that they come together to revive her from the waters seems to suggest as much.Raya and the Last Dragonends on a high note, but there’s plenty of potential for a sequel, since Raya, Sisu and Namaari all have a lot more to give. With a newly united Kumandra and the return of the dragons, a sequel could build on the rich lore of the first movie, exploring new characters and new territories. Since Disney is clearly looking for more sequels,Raya and the Last Dragonis a top contender.
