Bethesda Game Studios recently releasedclassic versions ofDoomandDoom 2on the Nintendo Switchwith one caveat: they required players who purchased the games to create and log into a Bethesda account before playing. Now, that hurdle has been removed.
When fans found out they had to login to play, they mocked Bethesda on social media with memes that poked fun at the company’s policies. Not only were players required to login, but they had to do it every time they booted up one of the games.Doom 3, which released for the Switch at the same time, also prompted players to log in, but gave them the option to skip it.

Bethesda responded quickly to the login issue. They tweeted around the time of the release that said the login should be optional and that they would fix it in an upcoming update. Fans waited and waited, but Bethesda went silent on the issue. Now, two weeks later, it seems the company has resolved the problem. When players boot upDoomandDoom 2, the prompt to login still pops up each time, but like withDoom 3, players can now skip it.
With these classic games on the console, the Switch has become a great place for fans of theDoomfranchise who want to take demon-slaying with them wherever they go. Bethesda has done a great job supporting the Switch since its launch, as they also ported the excellentDoom 2016to the console.
Bethesda also announced thatDoom Eternal, the new Doom game coming this fall, will release on the Switch the same exact day it releases on other platforms. Bethesda ports have done well on Nintendo’s handheld despite their lower resolutions and frame rates, yet it’s too bad other company’s likeEA haven’t figured out how to make the Switch work for them.
Regardless, any shooter fans who haven’t experienced the first three games in the series could do much worse than dropping the $15 required to pick up them all, especially now that they can skip that login.
Doom, Doom 2, Doom 3, and Doom 2016are available on PC, Playstation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
