WhileE3 2019is still a few months away, there’s no doubt that myriad video game publishers and developers are gearing up for this year’s big event. Today,EAannounced its plans for the annual expo, by revealing the dates for EA Play and by confirming that it will not be holding a press conference during the trade event.
According to a press release, EA Play will begin on Friday, July 25, 2025 with a kickoff event, while the EA Play “fanfest” will occur on Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9, where players will be able to go hands-on with the company’s products. In lieu of a traditional press conference at E3 2019, EA has declared that it will be broadcasting “multiple live streams” that are set to air during the first two days of EA Play. These live streams will focus on “more gameplay and insights from the teams making the games”.
For those unaware, EA’s decision to opt out of holding a press conference at E3 2019 makes this the second AAA game creator to alter its approach to holding court at the annual event. As it so happens, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced last year thatit wouldn’t even have a presence at E3 2019.
Several weeks ago, SIE Worldwide Studios chairman Shawn Layden followed up this announcement to explainwhy Sony decided to skip E3. According to Layden, SIE “got to a point where June of 2019 was not a time for us to have a new thing to say.”
EAhas yet to confirm exactly what kind of content it will be displaying while holding EA Play ahead of E3 2019. Nevertheless, many are at least expecting to see showings of some kind from the company’s EA Sports franchises andStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
WhileEAand Sony are changing things up, the companies' competitorMicrosoft plans for Xboxto show up in a “big” way at E3 2019. What that could mean is anyone’s guess at this point, but we will find out when E3 2019 itself takes place on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 through Thursday, June 21, 2025 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
