Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2keeps on growing, despite the fact that its developers, Saber Interactive, are already actively working on its sequel,Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3. It is absolutely keeping its word thatSpace Marine 2won’t be abandoned with the enormous Trygon update. This is the game’s seventh major update and marks a significant milestone as it not only adds the expected new content but also revamps a lot of key features that have been bugging players for some time.
Space Marine 2’sfrequent updateshave helped keep the game alive for quite some time, perhaps considerably more than many first anticipated before its release. It has ostensibly gone down the live service route through the addition of new PvE missions, cosmetics, and fundamental gameplay changes to keep players working towards something. The Trygon update encapsulates that perhaps better than any other update, asit givesSpace Marine 2a lot more longevity and some much-needed quality-of-life updates.
Space Marine 2’s Trygon Update Adds A New PvE Mission & Boss
The New Operation Exfiltration Sees Players Fight The Tyranid Trygon
The biggest new addition toWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2in the Trygon update is the new PvE Operation mission,Exfiltration. This follows on from some ofSpace Marine 2’sbest Operationsand sees players head to Avarax, a Hive City overrun by Tyranids and the update’s titular boss, the terrifying and tricky Trygon. This will prove to be a challenge for even experienced players as it darts around the battlefield, tunneling beneath them before bursting out and dealing huge amounts of damage to the unsuspecting Astartes.
Space Marine 2’sExfiltrationOperationwill test players' mettle, requiring them to bring the very best tools for the job. Fortunately, the Trygon update is adding a number of new weapons to every class in the PvE mode, expanding their arsenals even more to allow for more varied gameplay. This will help greatly in the task of taking out the Trygon as you attempt to exfiltrate a Tech-Priest. With more set pieces, explosive action, and a dynamic setting, theExfiltrationOperation will likely prove to be one ofWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2’sbest.
This could be Space Marine 2’s last new Operation for a while, as none have been announced beyond this one. However, fans have the upcoming Horde Mode to look forward to, as well as a slew of sweeping changes to the game’s PvP mode. While the Trygon update has added some key PvP improvements, 2025 will see Space Marine 2 get new PvP modes and maps. Of course, for those who don’t enjoy the PvP side of things, the major QoL changes made in the Trygon update will still keep you busy.
Space Marine 2’s Seventh Update Introduces Major QoL Improvements
Prestige Ranks, Custom PvP Lobbies & More
Beyond the expected new Operation, the Trygon update is adding a lot of impressive quality-of-life improvements that will not only vastly change how players approach the game but also ensure it will be sticking around for quite some time, even withSpace Marine 3looming on the horizon. Perhaps most importantly, the Trygon update finally addsPrestige Ranks toSpace Marine 2. Once players reach level 25, they’ll be able to unlock the first Prestige Rank and will even earn a little cosmetic to prove their worthiness.
From there, they’ll need to reach level 25 again to unlock the next Prestige Ranks. The Trygon update is introducing four Prestige Ranks, with each one granting players a unique perk as well as increasing the amount of XP you’ll earn by 10%. More will likely be added in the future once the majority of players have hit that top Prestige Rank, or it’ll all be reset, allowing players to do it all over again. This will certainly keep players invested and wanting to replay the nine available Operations until more content is addedin the game’s next major update.
In addition to Prestige Ranks, the Trygon update is also fixingSpace Marine 2’smatchmaking problemsby introducing two new forms of matchmaking. The first is a class-based matchmaking mode, which attempts to prevent multiple players from playing as the same class in the PvE mode. This will help improve balance on the whole and ensure that teams aren’t dying unnecessarily due to bad team composition. There is also skill-based matchmaking for the PvP mode, Eternal War, which will help prevent newcomers from being dominated by experienced players.
Saber Interactive has also added one ofSpace Marine 2’smost-requested features: private PvP lobbies.
Saber Interactive has also added one ofSpace Marine 2’smost requested features: private PvP lobbies. This has been a long-awaited feature, as it was initially teased in the game’s very first roadmap back in 2024.It will allow players to match in groups of up to 12 people, choose the map, mode, and morefor a completely customizable experience. You’ll also be able to tweak features like the score you need to reach or how long a match lasts, as well as add various damage modifiers to your liking.
Space Marine 2 Gets New Weapons & Cosmetics
A New Chapter DLC Is Here
Of course, alongside the free Trygon update, Saber Interactive is also adding morepaidSpace Marine 2DLC.Players who have paid for the game’s Season Pass will unlock cosmetics for both the Space Wolves and Imperial Fists, frankly two of the coolest Space Marine factions available. The Vanguard Class Champion Skin for the Space Wolves is particularly impressive, as is their custom Bolter Rifle, with its wolf decals and Norse-inspired writing. It’s a great addition, especially for those who were holding out for their inclusion in the game.
Additionally, the Trygon update adds a brand-new weapon toSpace Marine 2in the form of the extremely powerful Inferno Pistol. It is only available for four classes - the Assault, Vanguard, Sniper, and Heavy - but will prove helpful in completing the newExfiltrationOperation. This is in addition to the aforementioned weapon changes for all classes, so players can look forward to using it alongside their arsenal of other explosive guns.
All of this - outside of the paid cosmetic DLC - is completely free and available right now. Players will need to download the Trygon update forSpace Marine 2in order to access its content. More major updates are planned, with the2025Space Marine 2roadmapoutlining new modes, PvE missions, PvP content, and additional quality-of-life improvements that are set to once again greatly improve the player experience. Fans should look forward to all of that as they sink their teeth intoWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2’simpressive seventh major update.
