Although we’re still a year away fromStar Wars’next movie,The Mandalorian and Grogu, there are still plenty of fan theories about the upcoming film. One theory in particular surroundingDin Djarinhas already gotten a lot of traction, much of which is thanks toThe Last of Usseason 2, despite the fact it’s massively unlikely.
Din Djarin’s character has never shied away from risk inThe MandalorianTV show. It was inThe Mandalorianseason 2’s premiere episode that the Mandalorian warrior let himself get swallowed whole by a krayt dragon to kill it, a mission he completed with a surprising amount of ease.
Despite his knack for surviving amidst the greatest dangers, however, fans are still convinced that Din Djarin’s plot armor isn’t as strong as his beskar. This has continued intoThe Mandalorian and Grogumovie, as there are many fans who are convinced that Din’s lucky (or skilled) streak of survival will come to an end.
Din Djarin Dying In The Mandalorian And Grogu Movie Is An Oddly Popular Theory
This Actually Has A Lot To Do With Pedro Pascal
Whether it’s because Din Djarin actually almost did die inThe Mandalorianseason 1 finale or becauseDin Djarin actor Pedro Pascalhas a tendency to get killed off in most of his projects, fans seem convinced that Din’s at true risk inThe Mandalorian and Grogu. This, however, isn’t exactly a new theory.
As someone who’s been very active in this part of theStar Warsfandom ever sinceThe Mandalorianpremiered, I’ve watched every single season go by with fans convincing themselves that Din Djarin won’t make it out alive. The Mandalorianseason 3 was perhaps the biggest example of this, given Din’s capture in the penultimate episode.
Despite this tendency to incorrectly predict Din Djarin meeting his demise, fans are still convinced that there’s a good chance Din Djarin will be killed inThe Mandalorian and Grogu. It’s reasonable to assume that Pedro Pascal’s recent major character death inThe Last of Usseason 2 is to blame for this current line of thinking.
While it may be understandable that so many fans are convinced of this, it simply won’t come to fruition. This isn’t just because of the trend I’ve already seen with Din managing to survive each season ofThe Mandalorian; this is because ofDin Djarin’s own role inStar Wars’current success.
Din Djarin Is One Of Star Wars' Safest Characters Right Now
The Potential For His Character Is Just Too Great
The truth is that Din Djarin is actually one ofStar Wars’safest characters right now.The Mandalorianeffectively launched a brand-new era forStar Wars, digging deep into what we now refer to as theNew Republic era. Plenty of brand-new characters and established characters have since become integral to this time period.
Out of all these characters, Din Djarin might just be the safest, along with his beloved green son, Grogu. This is the case for several reasons. Firstly, Din Djarin has becomeone of the franchise’s most recognizable charactersever since the originalStar Warstrilogy. That’s not something the franchise would ever take lightly.
Din Djarin is engineered to be a long-lasting and, in a sense, immortal character.
Secondly, the relationship between Din Djarin and Grogu carries all the appealofThe Mandalorianfranchise.Star Warsliterally had Din Djarin take over half ofThe Book of Boba Fettspin-off series just to ensure that Din and Grogu could be reunited beforeThe Mandalorianseason 3. They’re not eager to split them up again anytime soon.
The third, and perhaps biggest, reason why this won’t happen is because Din Djarin is engineered to be a long-lasting and, in a sense, immortal character. He almost never removes his helmet, which means that essentially anyone can play the character at any given time should they need to. This is somethingStar Warswould want to take advantage of.
Din Djarin Is Too Important To Be Killed Off So Soon
Star Wars Needs Him For Their Future
At the core of it all, however, Din Djarin is simply too important to meet his demise anytime soon. He, along with Grogu, isthe face ofStar Wars’future, and the success they have garnered together is too massive to even consider killing him off. You can’t have a franchise based aroundThe Mandalorianwithout the titular Mandalorian.
There’s also the matter ofThe Mandalorianfranchise’s future. It’s looking more and more likely already thatThe Mandalorian and Grogucould be the first of a brand-new trilogy, as the movie will inevitably be a massive hit. It would be quite difficult to pursue a trilogy if one of the titular characters died in the first movie, though.
Even then, Dave Filoni is already writing his culmination movie forThe Mandalorianera, andit’s impossible to imagine that story gets told without Din Djarin, the character who launched it. At the end of the day, Din Djarin is just too important toStar Warsto die at the end ofThe Mandalorian and Grogu- or anytime soon, really.
The Mandalorian and Groguhits theaters June 27, 2025.
