Over the past 24 hours, fans have speculated that a newFalloutgame was on the way, and this morning Bethesda officially confirmed the next installment in the post-apocalyptic franchise:Fallout 76.
Fallout 76appears to take place on or around the tercentenary, the 300thanniversary, of the founding of the United States, hence the 76 imagery. This is what appears to be the “Reclamation Day” for Vault 76 residents. If the music playing in the trailer is any indication, the game may also take place around West Virginia and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Very few details have been officially confirmed, but Bethesda likes to hide details in their teaser trailers. For example, Bethesda may have hinted at the release date being October 27, due to a timestamp on the Pip-Boy present in the trailer.

Bethesda startedteasing the announcementyesterday morning, following a series ofFallout-themed images and videos circulating through Bethesda’s social media accounts. This all lead up to Bethesda releasing the official teaser trailer forFallout 76this morning.
Fans speculated that the game could be a remake or a sequel to the popular installment,Fallout: New Vegas, due to some imagery in the “Please Stand By” teaser, but unfortunately that is not the case.New Vegasdevelopers Obsidian Entertainmenttweeted out a saddening messagestating that they have nothing to do with the upcoming game.
Bethesda plans to showcase more ofFallout 76at the upcoming Bethesda E3 showcase. There is also speculation that Bethesda’s rumored sci-fi RPGStarfieldwillmake its debut at E3. Fans are also hoping for a fresh installment in the Elder Scrolls franchise, and not another Skyrim port.
Regardless of what other games make an appearance at Bethesda’s E3 presentation,Fallout 76is confirmed to make a grand appearance there. Hopefully the game will live up to the hype that has surrounded it over the past 24 hours.
