Despite its recent shortcomings,Final Fantasy 14remains one of the most popular MMOs in the world. It is, essentially, the only major one designed to be played via PC or console. Now, Naoki Yoshida, better known as Yoshi-P, has provided a new update on the possibility of a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game being developed.
Speaking withVGCat Gamecom 2025, Yoshi-P discussed the possibility of bringingFFXIVto Switch 2 and stated that he hoped there would be"good news"about its existence in the future. Yoshi-P also stated he would like to provideFFXIVandFinal Fantasy 16to"as many players as possible."
Yoshi-P Says There Are “Positive” Discussions Around FFXIV On Switch 2
One Of The Largest MMOs In The Palms Of Hands
Yoshi-P is assuring fans that he and the entireFFXIVteam are"putting in our best efforts to ensure this happens.“Yoshi-P then stated that they needed more time and additional information would be shared in the future. While not a direct confirmation of a Switch 2 version ofFFXIV, as thecurrent era of the game is ending, now would be one of the best times to explore adding another console.
With theSwitch 2 market already being large, it’shard to ignore the benefits of a Switch 2 version. Yoshi-P noted that a Switch 2 version would allow fans to play away from their PC rigs, and it may also introduce a younger audience toFFXIV,with Yoshi-P saying: “…it might be a new genre for them, and I would be super excited to get these new players into this genre and enjoying the game as well.”
FFXIV On Switch 2 Would Be A Massive Win For Both Sides
FFXIV Needs Help, And The Switch 2 Needs More Games
It’s no secret amongFFXIVfans that the game has beenstruggling in recent months, a sentiment that has alsobeen echoed by Yoshi-P himself. The game feels “same-y” after so many years, theDawntrailstory was lackluster for a lot of fans, and the game still has larger issues, like housing and a lack of meaningful endgame content. Putting the game on Switch 2 and introducing a new community might be the energy boost the game needs, moving into its new era.
On the Switch 2 side of things, the consoledoesn’t have very many gamesright now, with only two major first-party releases and a bunch of ports of existing games. This would be another port, yes, but it would be the console’s first MMO, and the portability of it might be enticing to existingFinal Fantasy 14players, too. No matter the reasoning or benefits, things are looking positive for a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game.
