After a brief hiatus, which followed theFortnitemap beingswallowed by a black hole, the game has returned, starting again from Season 1 of what Epic Games is calling Chapter 2. Now that the popular Battle Royale title is back, there is a lot for players to digest. There is plenty fresh new content, including the ability to upgrade weapons. Here’s how it’s done.

Now thatFortniteplayers are able to log in, they’ve made several discoveries. While searching around the map, new Upgrade Benches have been found littering the island. They’re pretty easy to spot; they’re tables with a spinning tool belt hovering at the top. Once one is located, players can upgrade a weapon using building materials.

How To Upgrade Weapons

Players will first need to equip the weapon they want to upgrade. Once they step up to the Upgrade Bench, a menu will pop up showing how many resources are needed to make that happen. There are four upgrade levels, and players can upgrade all the way up to Legendary. The higher the upgrade, the more resources required. This new system takes the bite out of RNG, allowing any player to obtain powerful weapons if they can save the materials.

Remember, thisisn’t the sameFortniteas before. Chapter 2 is bringing a lot of changes to the game, and Upgrade Benches aren’t the only new way for players to build up an arsenal. They can alsocatch a weapon with a fishing rod, which is part of a new fishing mechanic introduced with the new chapter. Once players secure a rod, they can head to any body of water and start reeling things in. Most of what they’ll pull up are fish, which will garner XP, but weapons are also a possibility.

Players can fish from the shore or they can ride out on motorboats, another new addition in Chapter 2. If they get knocked off their craft, they need not worry about drowning. Epic Games has alsoadded swimming mechanicsto the game, so players can freely swim about in any body of water on the map.

Fortniteis out now for iOS, Android, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
