It appears thatFortniteis ramping up for its latest map-changing event, which will lead players intoSeason 8of the popular Battle Royale event. Small cracks have begun appearing around theFortnitemap, suggesting that an earthquake or something even bigger is set to occur sometime between now and the start of Season 8.
Earlier today,Fortniteplayers began noticing a series of cracks in the ground around thebattle royale map. The cracks themselves are not terribly noticeable and don’t include any indication when they occur. However, one player went back through their replay to see that the cracks do form and are not just there from the start.
Now that the map has started to crack, Fortnite players have begun speculating about what it could mean for the game. No doubt this is a precursor to some event, likely the map-changing scenario that will signal the start of Season 8. That being said, it could also be a one-time event forFortniteplayers to join in and witness, like theMarshmello concertor the floating butterfly event.
Based on leaks and datamines from within theFortnitefiles, the prevailing theory is that aseries of earthquakes(or one big earthquake) will hit the game and trigger a volcano eruption. There are several “peaks” inFortnitethat could be turned into volcanoes, but many believe that Wailing Woods is where things will come to a lava-filled head.
Epic Games isn’t trying to hide those details either, with file names including phrases like “S8 Leadup Events” and “Gameplay Cue Earthquake Tremors.” Then again, there has been strong evidence to support priorFortnitetheories, like themeteors hitting Tilted Towers, and nothing came to pass.
The key difference here, though, is that the cracks are forming and something is clearly happening to the map. With Season 8 set to begin in about two weeks, Fortnite players likely have a lot more clues to gather before the volcano erupts, if that is actually what is going to happen.
