Licensed games have a reputation of being subpar, but sometimes a licensed title releases to strong reviews and stands out from the crowd. One of those was the 2009Ghostbusters: The Video Game, which not only earned praise for its gameplay, but also for how its story basically served as a sequel toGhostbusters 2. Now it seems as though fans may be given the chance to revisitGhostbusters: The Video Game, as the Taiwan ratings board has leakedGhostbusters: The Video Game Remasteredfor Xbox One.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remasteredwould presumably come to other platforms besides Xbox One, with PC and PS4 being the most likely candidates. The game is apparently being developed by Mad Dog Games, which is known primarily for making video game remasters.
Of course, it’s worth pointing out thatGhostbusters: The Video Game Remasteredhas yet to be officially announced, so fans should keep their expectations in check. Even so, the fact that a rating has appeared specifically for the Xbox One version of the supposed game could be a clue as to when it will be announced.
It’s possible thatGhostbusters: The Video Game Remasteredwill be announced at Microsoft’s E3 2019 press conference. We know thatXbox plans to “go big” at E3, and while a remaster announcement may not be all that exciting,Ghostbusters: The Video Gamewas quite popular back in the day, selling over 1 million units worldwide.
It’s also worth pointing out that E3 takes place in June, which is the 10 year anniversary of the originalGhostbusters: The Video Gamerelease. Perhaps the game will be announced and released on the day of the show, which is a tactic that is often used to drum up extra hype.
IfGhostbusters: The Video Game Remasteredis in the works, it’s far from the onlyGhostbustersvideo game to be released in recent years. There was also thePokemon GO-inspiredGhostbusters World, as well as a poorly-received twin-stick shooter that released back in 2016. Here’s hopingGhostbusters: The Video Game Remastered, if it does exist, does a better job of pleasing fans of the long-running franchise.
