Leading up to the highly anticipated release of thecritically acclaimedGod of War,exclusive toPlayStation 4, the game’s Creative Director, Cory Barlog, has revealed some more details about the game’s iconic hero, Kratos.
Barlog reveals details about Kratos' mentality in the game, the significance of his son, Atreus, and what type of journey Kratos is embarking on in the latest instalment ofGod of War. From the start of his explanation of Kratos, Barlog clearly states that the type of Kratos that we are about to encounter in the newGod of Waris vastly different from the confident and self-assured Kratos that we knew previously, and that he has in fact undergone “a lot of change.”
According to Barlog, in thisGod of War, Kratos will face the many internal problems that haunt him, since he has essentially “hit rock-bottom emotionally.” According to Barlog, having a character who has deeply routed internal demons to face gives the gamer a sense of satisfaction upon completion of the game, as it feels like “you have accomplished something” by allowing the character to redeem himself and some part of his humanity by the end of the game.
The footage from the game in this video also reveals that Kratos' son, Atreus, might have a significant part to play in the character’s development, as Atreus is seen helping Kratos in many instances, which might also indicate some sense of vulnerability in the character of Kratos. From this teaser video, it is clear that a lot of careful consideration has gone into the characterization of Kratos, and fans should look forward to experiencing aKratos who has more emotional depththan in past games.
