Ever sinceGrand Theft Auto 5’s release in 2013, fans of the franchise have been left wondering about whether the open-world crime drama will ever receive story DLC. Now, fans of the very secretive studio have gained insight into some of Rockstar Games' scrapped plans post-GTA 5.As reported by Video Games Chronicle, fans have found a database file withinGrand Theft Auto 5that points towards some of Rockstar’s other projects, likeRed Dead Redemption 2, GTA 4,Midnight Club Los Angeles, andBully 2, confirming the sequel to the 2006 open-worldGTA-like had been in the works at some point. The leak also revealed plans forGTA 5story DLC involving Trevorand jetpacks, which was converted into the Doomsday Heist mission forGTA Online.
Considering the massive and ongoing success ofGTA Online,it’s no surprise that anyGTA 5story DLC plans were scrapped in favor of more updates for the game’s online component. It’s also possible thatBully 2may have been scrapped for that same reason. The sequel had reportedly been written by former Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser and others just two years after the release of the first game, with Rockstar spending over a year working on the title in the early 2010s before it was seemingly canned.Bully 2rumors began swirling again in 2019 just afterRed Dead Redemption 2’s massive release, but unfortunately nothing had come of it.
It’s interesting to know thatBully 2had been in development at Rockstar, as it has seemed like the studio had been exclusively focused onGrand Theft AutoandRed Dead Redemption 2for the past decade. It begs the question whether the studio has more in the pipeline beyondGrand Theft Auto 6and, if it does, whether there’s going to be another half-decade wait. While fans of the originalBullymay be disappointed about its sequel never seeing the light of day, fans of Rockstar’s flagship franchise have a lot to be excited about with thereveal ofGrand Theft Auto 6right around the corner.
