Not too long ago, an Xbox Insider discussed a few tidbits about 343 Industries' next entry in the belovedHalofranchise,Halo Infinite. The rumors claimed thatHalo Infinitewould be the most expensive game ever, and the title will also feature a battle royale mode, despite previous insistence otherwise. Now, 343 Industries' Frank O’Connor has responded to the rumors.

O’Connor is upfront about not watching the video report, so he apologizes if he is misinterpreting the headline as “Halo Infiniteis launching with/[has] a Battle Royale mode.” Still, the 343 Industries developer claims that theHalo Infinitebattle royale rumorsare not true but his response is open to interpretation. It does not seem as if 343 Industries has planned solely to include a battle royale mode, but O’Connor points out that players could make their own in the Forge forHalo 5or theMaster Chief Collectionsince “it’s a mode, not a genre.”

He then goes on to discuss how he viewsApex LegendsandFortnite, stating that one focuses on movement and the other on building, and how battle royale has changed. As far asHalo Infiniteis concerned, the multiplayer modes are not “100% defined,” notes O’Connor, and are subject to change. 343 Industries is interested in big social game modes but not specifically “a blimp full of survivors heading to an Island after a (metaphorical) lecture from Beat Takeshi.”

In this approach by 343 Industries, it seems thatHalofans will get the best of both worlds. It sounds like those interested inHalobattle royale can do so from theHalo Infiniteforge (if notHalo 5orMCC) and those who rail against all things battle royale will be glad to know that there is not a battle royale-focused approached by 343 Industries. And for now, we will have to wait forE3 2019to learn Infinite.

Halo Infinitehas not currently announced a release date, but is planned for both the PC and Xbox One.
