New set photos oftheHarry PotterTV reboot’s set indicate thatHogwarts is already being reinvented. After the success of the eight-movie theatrical adaptation and the disappointment oftheFantastic Beastsspinoffs, HBO is planning to bring the franchise back to life with a new adaptation aimed at the small screen.
The TV show is looking to reimagine theHarry Potterfranchise by becomingmore faithful to the original books. Its cast will include Dominic McLaughlin (Harry Potter), Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger), Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley), and a series of more seasoned actors, including Paapa Essiedu (Professor Snape), John Lithgow (Professor Dumbledore), Janet McTeer (Professor McGonagall), and more.
While the cast is finalized, set designers are already hard at work developing a new take on Hogwarts. Instagram uservictoria-macleanstopped by the set, where a small hole in the wall offersa look into the new Great Hall. It remains under construction, but Maclean was able to capture some photos of the new design.
While construction has not been completed, the clip features several arches making up an enormous set. Rather than relying on CGI and green screen, it appears to be fully practical and expansive. Maclean also hinted thatPrivet Drive is also being developedat the other end of Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, though that footage was not captured.
What This Means For Harry Potter’s Reboot
Development Is Progressing On Time
TheHarry Potterrebootwas always going to bea massive investment for HBOand Warner Bros. Discovery. After all, the original movies earned $7.7 billion at the box office, while the comparatively disappointingFantastic Beastsmovies earned nearly $2 billion. This is a juggernaut franchise, so it is no great surprise that its set would be well-designed.
Thecommitment to practical designs, however, is impressive and indicates that the show will not be tripped up by CGI. Instead, the practical sets should help to make the world feel more real, just as the original Great Hall did. If it is as large as the set photos indicate, there should be an enormous cast of extras, as there was in the original movies.
The designs do appear to match both the movies and the books, though that could change as development continues. Even so, it is not necessarily surprising, given that Warner Bros. is unlikely to want tochange its theme park’s designs. The Great Hall should be remarkably similarto the movies, though the arch appears to be generally sharper.
Our Take On The New Hogwarts
It Is Still On Track
This construction is also occurring in a fairly timely fashion. HBO announced the reboot in 2023, and the cast has been largely shaped in 2025. The quick development of these sets indicates that the show ison track to complete production on time. Filming has reportedly already begun, so the Great Hall’s construction indicates that they have filmed other scenes first.
FIlming likely began on relatively smaller sets, before moving to the larger Great Hall scenes later on. While there is no way to know exactly when the series will finish filming season 1, HBO is hoping for a 2026 release, so it is no surprise that these areas are being finalized now. TheHarry Potterreboot remains well under way.
