What This Means For It: Welcome To Derry
Pennywise Is Ready To Terrify New Victims This Halloween
WithWelcome to Derrybeing a full-on horror story featuring one of pop culture’s most terrifying and iconic characters, it is fitting that the series will be debuting during the month of Halloween. The show would have been welcome at any time of the year, but itwill likely have an even higher viewership considering the timing of the release.
The prequel isbased on interlude chapters from King’sItnovel, as Mike looks into the history of Derry and other forms that Pennywise has taken on over the years. With these interludes not included in the most recent adaptations, the show will be adapting elements from the source material that did not make it into the movie, and which will be perfectly chilling to watch during Halloween.
Co-creator Andy Muschietti, who directedItandIt Chapter Two, has previously revealedWelcome to Derry’s multi-season plan, with future seasons taking place even further back in Derry’s history. The October release window can help the show perform welland make the other seasons a reality.

It’s Even Better Than The Movies' Release Window
Digging deeper into theorigins ofIt’s Pennywiseand how he impacted previous generations in Derry is a fascinating concept and one that is well worth exploring, especially given all the relevant information in the original novel’s interlude chapters. I would have watched this show regardless of when it was released, but I am evenmore excited to watch it around Halloween.
