Jemma Moore, one of the stars ofHost, the first horror film to be written and shot during the current lockdown, has Tweeted details of a live online watch-along of the movie tonight. Other members of the cast and director Rob Savage will join the conversation, offering live commentary and behind-the-scenes tidbits.
Hostwas born from a prank Savage played on his friends during a Zoom call, where he investigated strange sounds in the attic with startling results. The clip went viral, eventually catching the attention of Shudder’s General Manager Craig Engler who reached out to Savage about turning it into a feature.

Hostwas released on Shudder on July 30 to almost universally positive reviews, currently has a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and is currently the highest-rated horror movie of the year. Critics such as EJ Moreno on Flickering Myth have said “The film shines with how tight and fluid it feels from a narrative sense, and it’s accented with powerful scares and wonderful moments of terror.” RogerEbert.com’s Simon Abrams was a little more measured with his praise, “Savage and co-writers Gemma Hurley and Jed Shepherd do a fine enough job setting up their movie’s better set pieces, but it’s hard to overlook some obvious foreshadowing here.”
Seylan Baxter who plays the hired medium for the seance inHost, shared a cheeky behind the scenes anecdote on Twitter. Savage apparently told the rest of the cast that she was a real life medium not letting her reveal the truth until the wrap party. BeforeHost, Savage had shot several tightly directed horror shorts, including zombie thrillerDawn of the Deaf. Savage also directed demonic shortSaltstarringGarth Marenghi’s Darkplaceactor Alice Lowe.
Hostis available to stream on Shudder now and the watchalong will take place at 6:30pm ET/3:30pm PT on Twitter using the hashtag #HappySpookies.
