Actor Tramell Tillman was initially hesitant to film his majorSeveranceseason 2 finale scene.Fillman’s character, Seth Milchick, is an unconventional favorite inSeverance, and his big moment at the end of theApple TV+ series' sophomore season significantly contributed to this.As part of Mark S.’s (Adam Scott) reward for completing Cold Harbor, Milchick brought in and led a marching band in a climactic celebration. There was choreography and pizazz, and Tillman’s big moment continues to serve as a major highlight ofSeveranceseason 2’s ending.

In a Drama Roundtable interview withEntertainment Weekly,Tillman confessed that he had been, at first, reluctant to film the choreographed marching band sceneinSeverance. “We did the Music Dance Experience in season 1,” Tillman said, “so I didn’t want to attempt to recreate this thing.” TheSeveranceactor ultimately changed his mind when director Ben Stiller told him that, rather than just a dance, Milchick would be leading a marching band through the Macrodata Refinement office. “I was reticent about doing the whole choreography at all, because we did the Music Dance Experience in season 1. So I didn’t want to attempt to recreate this thing. But then Ben [Stiller] told me there’s a marching band, and I can’t say no to that. I’m like, ‘Let’s do it!'”

“I was always fascinated by the bands, and I never had the opportunity to play in the band. I definitely didn’t have the opportunity to direct one. So this was my opportunity and I enjoyed every minute of it.”

What Tramell Tillman’s Comment Means For Milchick’s Severance Season 2 Ending

It Was Important That This Scene Stay In Severance Season 2

Milchick’s marching band scene was bizarre and hilarious, butthe entire sequence was far more critical toSeveranceseason 2’s endingthan just that. Tillman’s character was being pushed to his breaking point by not only the severed employees, but the higher-ups of Lumon. Leading the marching band was an opportunity for Milchick to blow off all that steam, and it was evident that he put everything he had into that dance. Of course, things went wrong during MDR’s celebratory reward, and Milchick was pushed even further toward the edge.

It was important that his scene be included, both for Milchick’s development and to build up the episode’s energy.

It’s reasonable that Tillman wouldn’t want to repeat a sequence that had already been doneinSeveranceseason 1, and the marching band scene is indeedsimilar to the Music Dance Experience. However, it was important that his scene be included, both for Milchick’s development and to build up the episode’s energy. The marching band got viewers pumped up, which made Mark’s trek to save Gemma all the more exciting to watch.
