Even thoughDoctor Whoaudiences now know who Mrs. Flood is, I’m convinced that she’ll turn good before season 15 ends. At the end of season 15’s “The Interstellar Song Contest,” Mrs. Flood reveals she isDoctor Who’s the Rani, which is a groundbreaking moment for the show. This moment marks the Rani’s first appearance inDoctor Who’s modern era, and her first time returning to screens since the 1980s.
However, even thoughMrs. Flood’s true identity inDoctor Whois now known to all, this doesn’t mean she’ll continue to be a villain. AsDoctor Who’s big villain revealsgo, Mrs. Flood’s is great, but it seems that there is more to be explored with her. It’s not unusual forDoctor Whocharacters to change sides in the fight of good vs. evil, and nothing is impossible in this show.
Doctor Who Is Setting Up Mrs. Flood Turning On The Rani
Mrs. Flood’s Behavior Suggests She’s Up To Something
I think it’s likely Mrs. Flood will grow to resent the new Rani, and this is clear from their very first scene together inDoctor Whoseason 15. Immediately, Flood calls her “Ma’am” and bends to her successor’s will. It’s strange, consideringthe Rani doesn’t cower from anyone, and even though Flood isn’t exactly flinching at her new incarnation, she’s definitely holding back. The new Rani has no respect for her elder self, completely ignoring the fact that Flood has been doing all the hard work so far (or at least, that’s what is suggested).
In “Wish World,” things aren’t much better. Flood is still scurrying around and following the new Rani’s orders. In fact,Flood bitterly mocks the new Raniwhile she makes Conrad a sandwich. We know Mrs. Flood is more skilled than it seems in these scenes. She can break the fourth wall, frighten the elderly with just one comment, and travel through time and space (although it’s currently unclear whether she has a TARDIS or not).
So, why is Flood succumbing to the new Rani’s demands without argument? Perhaps it’s because we’ll see her in revenge mode in “The Reality War.”Maybe Mrs. Flood is also a product of bi-generation, from Kate O’Mara’s Rani, and has a different kind of temperament to past incarnations, which is why Archie Panjabi’s Rani looks down on her. It’s unknown what Mrs. Flood is planning, but I’m sure she’s up to something.
Befriending Ruby & Belinda May Still Be In Mrs. Flood’s Future
Maybe Mrs. Flood’s Timeline Isn’t What We Think It Is
I believe that Mrs. Flood’s timeline of events occurs in a different order to what audiences witness in seasons 14 and 15. It’s hard to tell, especially asFlood is so enigmatic, but I think that the character in “The Interstellar Song Contest” and “Wish World” is yet to become Belinda or Ruby’s neighbor. There seems to be aconnection between the Rani and Ruby Sunday inDoctor Who, with some theories suggesting the Time Lady is actually the one who left the companion as a baby on the doorstep of a church.
Both Ruby and Belinda’s storylines heavily feature babies: Ruby’s origin story, the Fifteenth Doctor’s flashback of Belinda as an infant, Captain Poppy, and now the newest ofthe Pantheon Gods inDoctor Who, Desidirium, the god of wishes. We’re yet to learn the full importance of Desidirium, but one thing “Wish World” does establish is that Mrs. Flood appears to be the only person who asks after the child. But why?
Maybe there’s a link between Mrs. Flood and the children, especially as she refers to the new Rani as her child because she “Sprang from [her] loins.” Perhaps the new Rani takes things too far, and to ensure the Doctor puts a stop to her villainous wrath and saves the Earth on August 06, 2025, Flood goes back in time. In doing so, she can verify the Doctor meets both Ruby and Belinda, so that they are present during the events of “Wish World” and the upcoming episode “The Reality War” to assist the titular Time Lord.
Mrs. Flood Vs. The Rani Would Mirror Missy Turning Against John Simm’s Master
Incarnations Of The Same Time Lord Fighting Each Other Famously Don’t End Well
While it seems unusual that a Time Lord or Lady would turn against themselves, past or future, it wouldn’t be a first forDoctor Who. Famously, the return ofDoctor Who’s Saxon Masterin the Twelfth Doctor era sees Missy go against her past self’s wishes. Although the pair initially work together at the end of “World Enough and Time” and in “The Doctor Falls,” it doesn’t stay that way, andMissy betrays the Master by deciding to go back for the Doctor, who they’d abandoned.

However, will the Rani and Mrs. Flood have a similar fate to Missy and the Saxon Master? Missy stabs the Master when she changes her mind about the Doctor, and he shoots with his laser screwdriver in retaliation. It’s worth noting that Missy’s fate is left unclear, and it’s unknown whether she is the lastincarnation of the Master inDoctor Who.Perhaps the two Ranis won’t face such deadly consequences of the other’s actions, but it’s hard to imagine a situation in which one committing revenge on the other has a happy ending, especially not inDoctor Who.
