Not too long ago, NetherRealm Studios' creative director Ed Boon revealed thatInjustice 2owners will be able toplay as Sub-Zero starting this week in July, which understandably excited fans of the fighting game. Of course, theMortal Kombatcharacter’s addition to the DC Comics-inspired brawler also caused folks to wonder which heroes and villains will be a part of the next batch of DLC for the title, which has led Boon to tease the inclusion of Black Manta.
As seen below in the video courtesy of DC Entertainment’s YouTube channel, while discussing all of the ins and outs of Sub-Zero, Boon alluded to the possibility of Black Manta being one of the next fighters to come toInjustice 2by way of an expansion pack. Around the two minute mark, the NetherRealm Studios creative director made mention of the fact that one of the silhouettes for the characters seen in the shadowy teases that was shared after the reveal of the game’s first Fighter Pack looked unmistakably like the amphibious archenemy of Aquaman.
Although Boon says that “there’s a chance” for Black Manta to arrive as a part ofInjustice 2’s DLC, it’s important to note that while the NetherRealm creative director has used character silhouettes to tease certain fighters before, some have ended up being completely different characters altogether. For instance, when Baraka was teased as an addition toMortal Kombat Xby way of his shadow, the arm blade-wielding warrior was then shown for a few brief moments in a Kombat Pack trailer to only be used as a host forAlien’s Xenomorph, with the creature bursting out of Baraka’s chest.
All things considered, it seems highly likely that Black Manta is on his way toInjustice 2’s roster, but there’s always the chance of Ed Boon and his team at NetherRealm Studios throwing a curve ball, as the silhouette could possibly belong to a shapeshifter like Plastic Man doing his own cosplay of the character. Nevertheless, we will likely learn more about which heroes and villains will officially be making their way intoInjustice 2in the coming days and weeks.
Injustice 2is out now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
