It’s unexpected, butwhen they longingly gaze into each other’s eyes in the preview, Kitty and Wolverine seem quite intimate and passionate.
Marvel’s already made Wolverine the new Winter Soldier on Earth-6160, and other changes to the X-Men overall are substantial. Peach Momoko’sUltimate X-Menare becoming the true team in this universe, whileclassic X-heroes form the anti-Eurasian Republic Opposition, which Kitty seems to be a major player in. Now that Kitty and Wolverine have reunited, they could be the Opposition’s controversial power couple.
Some readers wereexpecting the Jean Grey romance to take the focushere, since their love is iconic in the main continuity. Instead,it seems Wolverine might be in another love triangle with Kitty and Gambit. There are changes that could be made in the Ultimate Universe to make this less of an issue, but the context of Earth-616 history will always make it controversial.Kitty is a more mature mutant warrior, and perhaps they didn’t meet when she was a literal child on Earth-6160, but the idea will probably never sit right with longtime fans.
