After playing theGears of War: Reloadedbeta this past weekend, several fans have chosen to dip back intoGears 5while waiting for the next beta period this coming weekend, only to discover the game isn’t working properly on PC, with no fix in sight.Gears of War: Reloadedis, essentially, aremaster of the previously remasteredGears of War 1, which was titledGears of War: Ultimate Edition.Reloadedwill see some improvements, like 4K native resolution, but the only major addition to the game is it being available on PlayStation 5.
In a Reddit thread byHalo-player69, some PC players are going back toGears 5until the beta continues this coming weekend, and are discoveringthe game is virtually unplayable,at least on Game Pass on PC. While downloading the game from Game Pass, the base game will download, but then all extensive updates the game received over the years do not download, and neither do the campaign nor the entirety of the multiplayer offerings, like Horde Mode. Parts of the PvP game modes do still work, like Quickplay matches.
After speaking with an Xbox Customer Support agent, the representative confirmed the issue is with a bug on the game’s servers, andGears 5developer, The Coalition, is aware of the issue, saying:“We have communicated their team about the cases that we received regarding this bug and they have acknowledged that as their engineers are working on it.“The representative did not provide a timeline estimate for a fix for the issue.

Gears 5remains a game of great contention for fans, with some fans appreciating the evolution of the series to faster movement and gunplay, as well as having a lot of additional features absent in earlier games, like tons of cosmetics to unlock and the ability to crawl when downed. Others, however, felt likeGears 4, and especially5, drifted too far from the charm ofGears 1through3. The problem with the bug is that itprevents the download of most of the game’s campaign and multiplayer modes, making only one mode playable in versus. The download will say it is continuing, but it will be frozen at 23 percent complete. When viewing the download from the Xbox Game Pass PC app, the download does not proceed at all, and it eventually results in an error if a boot-up of the game is attempted.

The Series Might Be Destined For A Comeback
Even with the discovery ofGears 5’s issues on PC (which seem to only be with Game Pass; the Steam version appears to be fine) and the rocky beta, the amount ofrenewed interest in the series appears to be quite strong. Even ifReloadedis essentially just a remaster of a remaster, it will be the first timeGearshas made its way to PlayStation, and with that, an entire new audience has been established.
Reloadedmight bring some unfortunate consequences with it, like theclassic games potentially being remasteredone at a time instead of a collection, but fans seem to be excited to playGearsagain. Hopefully, the issues withGears 5are resolved soon and the nextReloadedbeta will go a bit smoother, because it seems likeGearsis being put back into everyone’s minds beforeGears of War: E-Dayreleases next year.
