James Gunn,DCStudios CEO, known for rebooting the franchise for the upcoming DCU, denies further allegations that suggest he was responsible for Emilia Harcourt’s revival in DC Comics.

Gunn introduced his wife, Jennifer Holland, asEmilia Harcourt inPeacemakerandThe Suicide Squadbefore it. She later made cameos as the character inBlack AdamandShazam! Fury of the Gods. David F. Sandberg, the director ofShazam! Fury of the Gods, acknowledged Harcourt’s involvement in theShazam 2post-credits scene as confusing. Williams, who is also the co-creator of Harcourt, shared the image on X, which is where a fan called out Gunn for having persuaded DC to bring Harcourt back so that he could feature her inthe upcomingBatman Brave and the Boldfilmand have it still be comic accurate. However, Williams fired back, stating that Gunn had no involvement in the decision-making process, as it was his suggestion to revive her. Gunn replied, adding that he just found out about it 10 minutes earlier and was impressed with the variant art, this time, sharing the cover of Harcourt in issue 6 by Marguerite Savauge.

It does not appear that Gunn had any involvement in Harcourt’s comic book return. Instead, Williams may have wanted to capitalize on her growing popularity. Despite Gunn debunking this most recent criticism against him, it does not necessarily invalidate other allegations since theDCStudios CEO is responsible for other controversial choices and conflicting information, all of which may have negatively impacted thebox office performance of DCEU movies likeThe Flash, in addition to upsetting long-time DCEU fans that were eager to see the main story under Zack Snyder continue.
