Trackerseason 3 is on its way, and Jensen Ackles has addressed whether fans should expect to see him in the upcoming episodes.Ackles recurs as Russell Shaw,Colter’s once estranged brother. Although he has only appeared in twoTrackerepisodes(“Off the Books” in season 1 and “Ontological Shock” in season 2), Russell has made his mark on the show.

During an interview withTV Insider, Ackles discussed what the future holds for Russell in the action drama series. Since neither CBS nor Ackles has announced whether he will appear inTrackerseason 3, the actor also teased his chances of returning to the show. Thankfully,it seems like viewers will see Russell back on their screens soon.Ackles said:

Jensen Ackles as Russell Shaw Holding a Gun in Tracker

“[There’s] probably a good chance [of Ackles returning in Tracker season 3] … There’s a lot of stuff to uncover there.”

What Jensen Ackles’s Comments Mean For Russell In Tracker Season 3

Russell Appearing Is All But A Given

Despite not being confirmed, Ackles’s comments heavily imply that he will appear asRussell in at least one episode ofTrackerseason 3. Perhaps they haven’t nailed down the logistics yet.TheTrackercast and crew are only at the beginning of filming season 3,after all. So, it’s safe to say that Ackles is expected to reprise his role as Russell.

Since Ackles isn’t quite sure (or forthcoming) about returning, he might not appear until later in the season. He certainly won’t show up in the early episodes, given the timing of the actor’s above comments andTrackerseason 3’s productionstart date. Consequently, we can only infer thatRussell’s probable return won’t happen until season 3’s later episodes.

Our Take On Russell Returning

Colter Must Meet With Russell Following The Tracker Season 2 Finale

It’s a good thing that Ackles will likely reprise his role as Russell in season 3, not only because he’s a joy to have around, but also because of what happened atthe end ofTrackerseason 2. AfterColter’s shocking revelation concerning his father’s death,it would only make sense for him to contact his brother (and sister, for that matter).

For those who need a refresher, Colter came face to face with his father’s killer, Otto Waldron, during the season 2 finale. However, learningthe identity of Ashton Shaw’s murdererwasn’t the only shocking moment in the episode.Otto informed Colter that his mother, Mary Dove Shaw, had asked for his help, implying she had something to do with Ashton’s death.

Trackerseason 3 premieres on Sunday, October 19, at 8 pm ET on CBS. Season 3 will reportedly contain 22 episodes (a record high for the show), and only Justin Hartley and Fiona Rene are expected to return as series regulars as Abby McEnany and Eric Graise are leaving.

Heading intoTrackerseason 3, Colter has many questions that need to be answered. He should go to his brother for help (or to get any other information that Russell might be holding back from him). Only time will tell what role Ackles’s character will play inTrackerseason 3, though.
