John Cena, WWE superstar and star of the upcomingBumblebeemovie, was in attendance at the San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend to promote the movie. While meeting with press, Cena did a short interview with the JoBlo Movie Trailers editor-in-chief, where the former WWE Champion told the reporter’s son to stop playing so muchFortnite.
In the interview, Cena asks the reporter’s son to “take a break” fromFortnite, a game that he apparently plays excessively. Cena then followed it up by joking that the reporter’s son, Dash, doesn’t have to stop playingFortnitecompletely, but that he should try to wean himself off to eight hours a day. “By watching this video, you enter an agreement to reduce yourFortnitepresence,” Cena said.

While Cena’s remarks aboutFortniteare clearly meant to be humorous, it’s worth pointing out thatFortniteaddiction can actually be a serious issue. Perhaps the most notorious example ofFortniteaddiction is the case of anine year old girl who entered rehabbecause she couldn’t bring herself to stop playing the game. The unnamed girl’s addiction toFortnitewas so extreme that she was lashing out violently at her parents when they attempted to take the game away from her, and she chose to soil herself so she didn’t have to stop playing to go to the bathroom.
Some researchers have stated thatFortniteis not addictive, but that somewhat contradicts the World Health Organization, which has recently classified video game addiction as a mental health disorder. Video game addiction only impacts a relatively small number of gamers, but it’s important that those who do experience it seek out the help they need.
AsFortniteremains one of the most popular games in the world, the conversation about its influence on children will continue.
Fortniteis out now in early access for iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
