Jojo’s Bizarre AdventurePart 7,Steel Ball Run,is finally getting animated, but there’s been one part of the process that’s proving difficult for the staff–and no, it’s not drawing horses.

At theJojo’s Bizarre Adventurepanel at Anime Expo 2025, the staff, who could not be present for the event, were able to send a message to fans, discussing their progress on the series and some of the struggles they’ve encountered so far. ScreenRant was there to capture the moment, and reveal just what had the staff worried.

Steel Ball Run is Facing an Unexpected Difficulty

The Anime’s Director and Music Composer Weighed In

“This is Part 7, after 13 years of animeJoJo—it’s the start line of this epic race,” the anime’s director shared over video. However, it was really the music composer who had the more concerning statement:

“This story is a race across America. I struggle with the music every day as I try to see myself in the work and see myself in Johnny Joestar.”

Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure (2012)

It’s an interesting take, to be sure. There are quite a few reasons why approachingSteel Ball Runmight be a little more intimidating than previousJojoparts, at least in the music department. While otherJojoparts have been set in America,Steel Ball Runreally captures a particular time and place: that feeling of the Old West.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventurehas had some phenomenal music so far, so there’s every reason to have faith in the composer to deliver again this time. ButJohnny is definitely a very distinctive protagonist, even compared to his fellowJojobrethren. Capturing his character in music that’s fitting for the setting may well be proving difficult.

Steel Ball Run is Still Moving Along

The Series Isn’t Being Slowed Down By These Issues

Fortunately, there’s no indication that the worries over music are actually in any way impeding progress on the series. It will certainly be interesting to see just what kind of musicSteel Ball Runends up with, but given the quality of music in previous parts, fans likely don’t have anything to worry about themselves.

If anything, the composer’s concerns over this music should probably be taken as a good sign, an indication that the composer is truly invested in creating the perfect accompaniment for a story likeSteel Ball Run. With all sorts of crazy moments ranging from horse racing to Stand battles to encounters with the divine, part 7 is sure to be a test of commitment.

With any luck,Steel Ball Runwill include music that’s just as iconic as Giorno’s theme or il vento d’oro was in part 5, or the Stardust Crusaders theme of part 3. The music is, without a doubt, a big part of the anime experience that sets it apart from reading the manga, butJojo’s Bizarre Adventureseems to be in good hands.
