What Jurassic World Rebirth’s Box Office Projections Mean For The Movie

They’re Conservative Because It’s Still Early

Jurassic World Rebirthis releasingon a Wednesday, meaningit will have an extended five-day weekend, instead of the traditional three. In fact, this will be the second film in the franchise’s history to launch on a Wednesday, followingJurassic Park IIIin 2001, which earned $85 million over the five days. Even with the extra two days,Rebirth’s current projections are still behindJurassic World: Dominion’s$145 million opening in 2022. However, it’s still early inRebirth’s rollout, and it has the chance to become a big hit.

Among the new trilogy,2015’sJurassic Worldstill holds the franchise’s best opening at $208 million, which also ranks as the seventh-best in domestic box office history.Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdomfollowed in 2018 with a $148 million opening. With three weeks left in its marketing campaign,Rebirthhas the chance to bring the higher end of its projection upinto the $145–$148 million range, which is whatDominionandFallen Kingdomopened to, though 2015’sJurassic Worldseems slightly out of reach.

Our Take On Jurassic World Rebirth’s Box Office Projections

A Lower Opening Is Okay

A relatively lower opening would be okay, consideringJurassic World Rebirth’s budgetis reportedly only $180 million. While still a hefty sum, it’s considerably lower thanDominion’s $265 million budget and less than half of Fallen Kingdom’s massive $432 million budget. In turn,Jurassic World Rebirthonly needs to make about $450 million before it begins turning a profit, compared toFallen Kingdom, which needed to make just over $1 billion, andDominion, which needed to make about $662.5 million.
