Warning: SPOILERS ahead for The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2, episode 8!The Walking Dead: Dead Citystar Lauren Cohan has weighed in on Maggie’s future after the end of season 2, and where she might go from here.Dead Cityseason 2 endedwith Maggie almost killing Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), only to spare him after learning Ginny (Mahina Napoleon) died. This puts the pair on the same team, alongside Perlie (Gaius Charles), as they watch New Babylon’s army march on Manhattan. Hershel (Logan Kim) has also sided with the Dama (Lisa Emery), with Maggie now determined to stay and change her son’s mind.
In an interview withScreenRant’s Owen Danoff aboutThe Walking Dead: Dead Cityseason 2 finale,Cohan explained how she doesn’t believe Maggie’s story will end in Manhattan.Instead, she wants her story to come full circle, both for the spinoff itself, and when considering her journey in the original series. She also pitches the idea of going overseas to Spain, crossing over with Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) inThe Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Check out what Cohan had to say below:
ScreenRant: New York is a port city. People go to Europe from New York all the time. We have Norman Reedus in Europe. Do you think Maggie’s story ends in New York, and do you think there’s a possibility that you will work with your other former co-stars again?
Lauren Cohan: I also love the way you asked that question: ”Do you think Maggie’s story ends in New York?” Stuff that’s fun about this show, or [what] it brings up, is like, “Wow, what would you do if you got the call and you were like, “Find your people. Do what matters.” When I think about that, [that’s] how I think about what you just said.
“Would Maggie be in New York?” I’m like, “No. Absolute, huge no.” I just don’t. I love New York. I love New York for our story, but a big part of what has been happening for me as we reflect on these seasons and the show before that, and what we hope we can do if we get to continue, is, “How far do you go from who you first [were] to get you back to who you are?”
I don’t know if this is what will actually happen, but for me it’s like there is this kind of holistic loop. There is this sort of holistic circle [where] I hope to find ourselves almost back at the beginning in the end for her. I hope, older [and] wiser. But yeah, who knows, it’s all a circle.
And maybe we go to France, or Spain, or wherever they are now. Spain.
What Cohan’s Statement Says About Maggie’s Future In The Walking Dead
Although it’s unclear how Maggie’s story will end overall, setup forDead Cityseason 3indicates she’ll be staying in New York for quite some time as she tries to save her son. However, the franchise’s chief content officer,Scott Gimple, has previously stated his intentions totieThe Walking Deadspinoffs togetherat some point, in ways big or small. This means it’s unlikely her story is going to end in Manhattan, with her current mission being just one of many narratives she’ll be part of going forward.
Since Cohan seems adamant that Maggie’s story doesn’t end in New York, it’s possible she’ll have a part to play in the larger zombie universe even after the series ends. While she’s probably not showing up inDaryl Dixonseason 3, or any seasons in the near future, she could still cross over with other franchise characters in various ways.This could include returning to the Virginia communities, or somehow running into familiar faces who’ve come to Manhattan. Either way, it sounds like the city is far from the end of her story.
Our Take On Maggie’s Story Not Ending With New York City
Cohan’s statement indicates Maggie’s story may not end withThe Walking Dead: Dead City, even speculating the spinoffs could be connected to one another in the future. Given the possibilities within the zombie franchise, there might be much more for her character to do in other shows after her adventure in Manhattan comes to a close. With the story still taking place in the city, though, it might be some time before she goes elsewhere.
