This Is Martin Scorsese’s First Emmy Nomination For Acting

Martin Scorsese, the renowned director behind films likeGoodfellasandThe Departed, made an appearance in the premiere episode of Apple TV+‘sThe Studio. The episode shows Seth Rogen’s character, Matt Remick, claiming a new position as the head of Continental Studios, where he hopes to produce a new film directed by Martin Scorsese.

The Emmy nomination is far from Martin Scorsese’s first, but it is his first for acting.

The premiere episode goes big with guest appearances from Peter Berg, Steve Buscemi, Bryan Cranston, Paul Dano, Charlize Theron, and, of course, Scorsese. When matters go awry for Matt due to the studio’s financial demands, he’s forced to betray the legendary director and pursue an IP-related film based onKool-Aidinstead.

This, of course, isn’t the first time Scorsese has lent his talents to the screen, small or large. He’s made cameo appearances in his own films, with a particularly haunting performance inTaxi Driverthat’s considered one of the more sophisticated director cameos. On television, he’s also appeared in Larry David’sCurb Your Enthusiasmin a guest role.

The cameo appearance was hilarious as is, but the fact that Martin Scorsese might actually win an Emmy for it makes it even better. This is the show that mocks Hollywood tendencies, including the superficial nature behind awards showslike the Golden Globes.

Not to mention, of all the things Martin Scorsese has accomplished in his career, winning a major award for a brief role in a comedy series would be an unexpected development. The Studioseason 2 is already underway, and given the number of cameos that have been nominated, I imagine the next season’s cameo list will be even more stacked.
