While she talks through her first battle,Powerlift reveals that her moms worked on gamma research, meaning she may have inherited her powers biologically. Withthe power to take on Marvel’s gods, Powerlift has immediately proven herself as a major new hero in the universe, but there are still secrets in her past that the publisher needs to explore. If Dr. Keisha Kwan’s parents somehow passed along gamma powers from doing research with it too closely, they might have some powers of their own.
Perhaps the powers were only passed along to their daughter, but if not, there could be an entirely separate family of Hulks that the Marvel Universe hasn’t featured until now.Miles Morales: Spider-Man #34also established that Powerlift has adrenaline-based powers rather than Bruce Banner’s rage, but there may be even more variations of gamma powers that are still unknown.
When Dr. Kwan re-introduces herself as Powerlift, she’s able toland a punch on a literal god, proving her amazing power. However, if these powers are just residual gamma radiation from her parents’ work, they might have even more strength than their daughter. If Keisha’s parents hold more power, the hierarchy of Hulks in the Marvel Universe is officially evolving.
How Powerlift’s Parents Might Fit Into the Current Gamma Universe
Could Her Moms Be Marvel Heroes Too?
There aremany gamma-powered characters in the Marvel Universe, and an infinite number in their multiverse;asecret family of Hulk-level threats would be a fascinating development for Earth-616. Perhaps Keisha’s moms being gamma scientists could give them a deeper connection to another character that’s wrapped up in Hulk lore, even Bruce Banner himself, but that’s still to be revealed.
Dr. Keisha Kwan has been working with Doc Samson, now known as Doc Sasquatch, as shown in her firstMiles Morales: Spider-Manappearances. Her moms are still a mystery aside from the dropped line in her recent battle, butit should be interesting to see how their story started, and if they could be major new heroes or even villains.

“Miles Morales: Spider-Man” Goes Beyond the Spider-Verse
Keisha has become not only a great addition to theMiles Morales: Spider-Manseries, buther stint as Powerlift and her secret origins could have major ramifications for Marvel’s Hulks. She’sbecome a great new ally for Miles, but it would be awesome to see series writer Cody Ziglar or another talented team expand Powerlift’s story in her own series.
Powerlift has now fought against the gods and teamed-up with Spider-Man, but her fascinating origins still deserve to be delved deeper into, for the character’s sake and to expand Hulk lore in exciting ways. Marvel’s newestHulkmay be a strong addition to the franchise, yet her parents’ hidden past with gamma powers could unexpectedly shake up the Marvel Universe.
