The relaxing mobile mogul game by Scopely,MONOPOLY GO!is kicking offStar Warsday with a free two-month-longStar Warsevent. During the limited-time event, players will have the chance to gain collectible in-game items like tokens, shields, and emojis while exploring the stories of the Skywalker Saga andTheMandalorian. Even a unique form of podracing will take place, letting mobile tycoons race around familiar tracks with their friends, as long as players can get enough race currency from the core game to properly fuel their podracer.
MONOPOLY GO!is no stranger to ambitious crossovers, as was seen in its recent in-game Marvel event featuring Wolverine, Deadpool, Spider-Man and other familiar heroes. Theepic space operaStar Warscrossoverstarted this morning onMay 1, 2025, and will run until July 2, so players can log in now on their mobile devices to start the fun. In anticipation of the event,I had the chance to askMONOPOLY GO’s Content Director, Phil Williams, a few questionsregarding what it looks like to blend the world ofStar Warswith this mobile take onMonopoly.
Bringing Iconic Star Wars Characters To MONOPOLY GO!
Collaborations Are Carefully Chosen To Fit With The Experience
The artistic design behindMONOPOLY GO!is a cartoon-like, cheerful feeling, but also one that is very different from the iconicStar Warsmovies. I asked Content Director, Phil Williams, about how the creative challenge aspect was handled. “The visual style of MONOPOLY GO! is playful and simplified, so the team had to be incredibly thoughtful about how to distill such beloved, detailed characters, starships, and settings into something that feels true to both brands. It’s all about capturing the essence- the key shapes, colors, and personality traits - without overcomplicating things. I think the team absolutely nailed that sweet spot.”
Similar toprevious events such as the Marvel crossover, Williams also added that the incredible art team atMONOPOLY GO!had a blast working on this challenge and seeing their interpretations come to life. I asked Williams what goes into the decision process for deciding who to collaborate with, to which he answered that, “our number one priority at Scopely is always: what do our players love?Star Wars is one of the most iconic and beloved franchises in the world, and we know it holds a special place in the hearts of so many of our players - so it instantly felt like a perfect fit.”
He added that another factor isseeing how well a prospective collaboration would fit with theMONOPOLY GO!experience, and withStar Warsit helped that the team at Scopely has several passionateStar Warsfans. “Once we began working with the team at Lucasfilm, the possibilities quickly sparked excitement. It’s been an incredible opportunity to blend two iconic universes in ways that surprise and delight our players.”
What Players Can Expect To See During The Star Wars Event
An Ambitious Project, With Extra Surprises On May 4th
Although the event focuses on the Skywalker Saga andThe Mandalorian, it appears that the primary source of content is focused on the Skywalkers. Bringing this up with Williams, he responded that “We’re incredibly excited to bring both the Skywalker Saga and elements from The Mandalorian to life in MONOPOLY GO!. While the Skywalker Saga is a major centerpiece of our storytelling and marketing, players will absolutely encounter beloved characters and themes from The Mandalorian through the Star Wars GO! album and special cosmetics.”
He assured us that thepopular “baby Yoda” character, Grogu, fromThe Mandalorianwill be available as a special tokenfor players to collect in the game. Players will also be able to unlock emojis fromThe Mandalorian, as well as many from the Skywalker Saga.“Our goal was to create a Star Wars celebration that feels rich, recognizable, and full of surprises for fans. We can’t wait for players to discover all the Mandalorian touches woven throughout the experience, alongside the timeless stories from the Skywalker Saga.”
We wanted everything to launch in a polished, seamless way—so the timing had to work for both the development and the player experience.- Phil Williams
This event is long in length, running from May 1 to July 2, but the team is well aware of the timing of its start sonearStar Warsday on May 4th. Even so, Williams explains thatthe event is scheduled to run for two months due to the scope of the project.“Bringing Star Wars into MONOPOLY GO! has been an incredibly ambitious project and getting the timing right was just as important as the creative vision. There were a lot of moving parts to balance behind the scenes: new event features, full Star Wars-themed reimaginings of core game moments, and a huge amount of art and production work. We wanted everything to launch in a polished, seamless way—so the timing had to work for both the development and the player experience.”
Podracing Is A Perfect Match For MONOPOLY GO!
Similar Gameplay To Tycoon Racers Event
The Podracing feature has been marketed as a fun part of theStar Warscrossover, so I asked Williams to explain how the race mechanic will work.“Podracing was one of the first Star Wars-themed features we knew we had to bring to MONOPOLY GO!It just felt like a perfect match — our Tycoon Racers event zooming into the Mos Espa Stadium with Anakin, Qui-Gon, and Sebulba.”
He went on to explain thatplayers will collect race currency while playing the main portion of the game and use that to fuel the podracerto race around the track.“And while you thankfully won’t need to dodge Tusken Raider ambushes, we’ve got the drama of the new Lucky Rocket and Overload features. These introduce twists and boosts that keep each race unpredictable and super fun.”
The Classic Stories Are Explored Through Peg-E’s Eyes And Imagination
Storytelling Coming To Life In The Sticker Album
to bring the world ofStar WarstoMONOPOLY GO!the teamleaned into the imagination ofMONOPOLY GO’sbeloved little robot Peg-E.Williams says,“we’re able to take Mr. Monopoly, Scottie, and the whole MONOPOLY GO! crew on an epic journey across the galaxy far, far away. You’ll see that storytelling come to life in the sticker album, where Mr. Monopoly learns the ways of the Force… and even dabbles with the dark side for a moment or two!”
There have been so many “pinch me” moments—like having serious team debates over how to fit four players into a podracer, or what color lightsaber Mr. Monopoly would wield!- Phil Williams
He continued,“but it doesn’t stop there—this is our biggest collaboration ever, so that narrative thread carries through the entire season. Daily events, milestones, and in-game experiences all build on the story, withplenty of fun surprises and easter eggs for longtime Star Wars fans.“Asplayers collect the stickersfor the sticker album, stories will unfold while they collect fun rewards, adding to the overall experience of the game event.
A Few Final Thoughts From Content Director Phil Williams
Perhaps A Rock Music Event Coming Soon?
I asked Williams what his favorite part of thisStar Warscrossover was, and he expressed that,“Honestly, it’s been a dream project. I’m a huge Star Wars fan, so getting the chance to tell stories with these legendary characters and moments has been such a thrill. There have been so many “pinch me” moments—like having serious team debates over how to fit four players into a podracer, orwhat color lightsaber Mr. Monopoly would wield!“He adds that perhaps the best thing is seeing the designs the team comes up with “evolve into beautifully crafted artwork and seamlessly integrated gameplay - it never gets old.”
For fun, before closing,I asked Williams what his dream crossover, no matter how unlikely, would be forMONOPOLY GO!“Haha, well as a big rock music fan, I’d love to find a way to get a stadium-filling rock band into Monopoly GO!—complete with world tours, epic solos, and maybe a chance for me to hang out backstage… strictly for research purposes, of course.”
Ending the interview withMONOPOLY GO!’s Content Director Phil Williams, he shared that he wants everyone to know,“Just how much passion and care has gone into this crossover. Star Wars has inspired so many of us on the team, and getting the chance to bring it to life in MONOPOLY GO! has been something really special. We’ve poured a ton of love into every element —and we can’t wait for players to discover all the little details, surprises, and Easter eggs we’ve hidden throughout the season. Most of all, we hope players feel the joy we felt creating it. And while this is our biggest collaboration yet… let’s just say we’re always dreaming big. There’s plenty more to come.”
